Whats the use of launching limited editions, when there is a ridiculous waiting period? I think Maruti should first focus on delivering cars to people who are waiting, as first priority. Limited editions are for attracting more customers and to clear out the existing stock.

Launch of Limited edition is generally to create excitement in the market , increase demand hence clearing off any old inventory, just before launch of a new model.
Looks like a new model is just around the corner , let wait and watch what is Suzuki’s game plan to counter upcoming big launches like the Toyota Etios scheduled somewhere in Dec /Jan 11.

The news article says that only 1000 would be produced. I don't think it is a case of excess stock.

Whats the guarantee that only 1000 pieces are made. It can be more of a marketing tactics - just to increase the exclusivity. In a truth it can be 10,000. Who notices? Majority of the car buys even forget these.

Possibilities are endless here !

It can be that maruti is trying to clear off the old stock before the launch of the new model. Oppositely, it can also mean that Maruti has made evaluations to launch the new Swift as soon as possible and realized that it was not feasible. So, they might have offered this so called limited edition to draw the market during Diwali (the on-season for car makers in India), in an attempt to not loose a good percentage of their sales to Figo, Polo and other competition.

So, its hard to tell based on the launch of the limited edition at this time, if the new one is soon to launch or not.

Well said, we don’t know what is Maruti's strategy, may be the new model is not yet ready for a commercial launch, so to keep its sales chart moving during the Diwali season this limited edition can be stop gap arrangement.

Regarding numbers it depends on the manufacturer how much they want to churn out , I have often heard saying like “due to overwhelming demand we are extending our offer etc….”

Whats the decal theme? Persian flying carpets?
The leather seats look fine - but personally I do not prefer this 'crumpled at stitches' look.

This ugly... horrible... atrocious... gross... worse than the Zen Classic.

But, being a Swift & a Maruti, definitely it will find the takers, & we can see at least 1000 of those Nawabs in these Persian Carpets on Indian roads before the new swift is launched to our relief.

The development of this "Limited Edition Swift" seems to have been done by the Zen Estillo design team, under the leadership of the same person who had once finalized Pink as one of the colour options for it.

Will these exteriors really make it to the streets? So far, I believed that Indias "Best to worst" modifications were
1. CBZ to CBZ Extreme.
2. Zen to Zen Estillo.

Now a new entry found for this list.
