The front looks ok but the rear is indeed disappointing. The interiors are improved but HU interface looks cheap. The GC seems improved. Overall it seems more like a refresh rather than a new model.

I think India bound New Civic should be here soon, as Honda Thailand is now heading up to launch all new Civic in Thailand.

I would pick the current gen Civic type one over this. I hope introduction of new model will cause further southward movement in already tasty prices of pre-owned civics and many more enthusiast, including me, would be able to add one to their garage.

I was never a big fan of Civic but after seeing AceF355's car in person recently, I am bowled over and keep fantasizing about owning one with some delicious deep dish 17"ers.

Here's a link to the E-Catalogue for 2012 Honda Civic (Singapore).

http://www.honda.com.sg/cars/PDF/civic_catalogue.pdf

Looks good, Honda has taken the design cues from the new Honda City, I guess.

Here in Thailand, it is priced as:

- 1.8 S MT = THB 773,000 (Approx. INR 1,321,868.00)
- 1.8 S AT = THB 828,000 (Approx. INR 1,416,065.05)

- 1.8 E AT = THB 909,000 (Approx. INR 1,554,393.97)
- 1.8 E NAVI = THB 964,000 (Approx. INR 1,648,437.17)

- 2.0 EL NAVI = THB 1,124,000 (Approx. INR 1,922,036.70)

Let's wait and watch, what they price it in India.

Cheers!!

With the diesel option still looking distant for the Civic, pricing is not going to be a key differentiator, and this is going to continue as an enthusiast's car, with only those who are fond of Honda engines taking the plunge.
Couple of factors prompted me to say this;
1. The feature list that we see here. Honda most likely wont give most of the ones that we see here. Now, even if it has most of them, there are not much, except for maybe the new look dash and the navi, that are too different from the current one.
2. The engine is only marginally better compared to the existing one. I am not talking about either the 1.6 or the 2.0 which are most likely to skip Indian shores.

Of course, there will be improvements between two generations of the cars, but am not seeing the change as we saw between the 7th and 8th generation Civic's.

And to add on top of all these, are the looks of the 8th gen Civic, which is proving little hard to beat, even after 6-7 years.

I read somewhere that India will get the facelifted Civic as this one hasnt been as successful as Honda would have liked it to be. Also, it will make sense for Honda to launch the car only when the 1.6 L diesel engine is ready to be put inside a production car.

The Civic facelift is due in early 2013 in the USA and the launch of this version in Thailand is not good news for us.

This only means that Honda has decided to commit hara kiri and launch the compromised current model in India.

For those who missed the scathing report on the Honda Civic by Consumer Reports. The plastics and interior look especially cheap.

2012 Honda Civic LX: Scores too low for Consumer Reports to recommend

Add to this injury, no diesel engine and the Hyundai Elantra looks like it will devour the Civic

You have to be a hard core Honda fan to go for the new Civic, the old civic when introduced was league apart from competition but its not the case with New Civic. The expectation was so high for the New Civic especially when we look at the radical design of the current generation. Normally designers take cues from the next segment models but in Civic's case Honda engineers were too lazy to take design cues from one segment below ie. from Honda City which is already more than 4 years old in the market. Honda's dip in sales might be because of lack of diesel engine but certainly design can not be ignored.

Considering they sold only 51 civics in the country last month, they're probably looking for SOMETHING to do to increase their sales. 51 is a ridiculously low number for any car - particularly a world-leader like the Civic.

Even apart from the obvious lack of diesel, the car has now remained unchanged for about 6 years with only a minor facelift.

I wouldnt be surprised if this one from Thailand comes down here. The only question is -- when? And what are they going to do with this inventory of non-moving cars that they have here?

They better fix it - The Civic is developing a reputation of a non-mover here, because even the resale prices are tanking. This is a reputation that they dont really have anywhere else in the world for this car - but if they dont fix it, then this car will die here completely!!

Anyone know what the lag between launching in Thailand and India typically is?

Its not consistent, but normally its around 2-3 months. For eg; the new City was launched in Thailand at around September-October, and we got in Indian in November.

Might not be the case now as Honda wouldn't even think of bringing in a Petrol Civic into India. They will wait for the 1.6 Ltr Diesel to be tested and to be ready to install inside the new Civic before bringing it in. If they bring in a Petrol only Civic, they can expect sales of 300 units max monthly.

I expect the car to come in Jan, 13. If it was going to be launched here, someone would have caught it testing.

I love the looks of the Current civic. When you compare the New to come Civic with the current it looks like The current civic evolved from the New civic.
The new one might be better under the hood and other mechanical parts but in the looks department its taken a backseat. They seem to be going in the direction of a family face with the grill.slowly but steadily.
If the civic launches here without the diesel engine im sure it would be a market dud.But then again with the goverment planning on increasing duty on diesel cars you never know. Its going to be a very tricky situation.

Tricky situation indeed! On the verge of buying a civic, but torn between waiting or just buying. One would have thought that there'd be good discounts on the current model -- but Apparently not! Only 60-65k! Even the manza has a higher discount!!

No point in buying the current one. It will lose value very fast and trust me, inspite of what people say, the new ones a better car. Sure its not as radical a car as the old one for its time but its still a nice car. The interiors get the all new info screen (a mini idrive) and the engine, suspension are updated.

There are few video reviews of new Civic on youtube which covers almost every detail of the car.

Have a look
