Any chance of the petrol Cruze competing with Vento, SX4 and City? I ask because its a 1.4L engine, more or less similar to the above mentioned ones. Choice is what Indian buyers are looking for, and GM has hit the sweet spot i feel!

I don't think so coz the 1.4L engine is a turbocharged one and produces more power than Civic/Corolla.

nice choice of engine by GM.
More power and much more torque compared to civic and corolla petrol. At the same time 1.4L means better FE too.

@GTO: Rightly said, what GM needs are the numbers. As far as i am concerned the Cruze appeals to a particular type of buyer group, and the way i see it they brought the Cruze for its maddening power. If they can replicate this in Petrol i am sure they are going to see good numbers.

@mxx: I believe there is also a 1.6 and 1.8L Variant, more details can be found here:

Cruze petrol should rock if it's priced correctly ,great work to catch this.
In how much time do we expect this car to hit the shelves?
The Cruze diesel will mark its first anniversary on the 12th of October and I remember when I saw Cnb's show last year and I remember the guy mentioning that we could expect the petrol Cruze to be here in an year's time!!

Savior, you bet! The net profit from 800 odd Cruze' (priced at 11+ lakhs) has got to be more than 2,500 Beats (priced at 3.5 - 4.5 lakhs)! Who would have thought?!

If Chevy intends to launch it (which they should), I'd say a quarter. A petrol Cruze will greatly widen the appeal of this car. Not everyone wants a diesel.

Nice. One more alternative to the City.

What happens to the Magnum then? I know, its again a diesel. But at this price (~10) won't it be too close?

Magnum is on its way out. The recent discounts on magnum seem to suggest that. Internationally the cruze is an optra replacement. So a smaller engine turbo charged petrol at good price point (read 10 lakhs) would be quite appealing to people looking at civic or altis petrol. This would also bring more zing in the competetion.

Great scoop!

On the street I stay in South Delhi its raining Cruzes. Many 25L+ car owners have a 2nd or 3rd ride as a Cruze. They are in love with the it! Works great as a self driven and a chauffeur driven car. Mileage+Looks work for the punjus and baniyas here!

I think a turbo petrol with a sweet manual tranny would be good concoction for the petrol heads.

In the states the petrol variant's costs from $17K till $23K "Meaning Rs.7.65Lac till Rs.10.35Lac". But off-course it may cost more in India say 9-11Lac "Optra costs 8.42Lac and 9.62Lac after discounts"

Petrol Cruze will definitely appeal to those who like the car but do not want a diesel. BTW, Cruze is the sportiest looking sedan there is in the market today.

If a petrol Cruze is introduced with a correct price point similar to the diesel sibling it willl blow away the competition.

More than 50% of the buyers will lap it up only for its looks and remaining for its performance leaving the competition huffing and puffing away. Hope they introduce it with some more colors. Existing on offer arent too exciting.

The key here is the correct price point and not too much delay in introduction.

The 1.4L is a newer engine and is turbocharged its most likely that they will intro that with the Petrol not the 1.6L or the 1.8L because 1.8L and 1.4L Turbo produce almost the same power ~139PS.

The 1.4L is a part of their "Family 0" some Opel cars are also suppose to sport that.

Now coming to the raw comparison of Linea T-Jet vs Cruze 1.4L Turbo, Linea's 1.4L puts out 120PS and Linea T-Jet's kerb weight is suppose to be around 1260kg and Cruze kerb weight is suppose to be 1285kg and produce 139PS.

This is probably wishful thinking but Chevy could take the Petrol launch as an opportunity to introduce one variant, in petrol and diesel, which comes specced with all the safety features offered as standard ware abroad - ie 8-10 airbags and ESP. Its the one area where it loses out to the European competitors. More importantly, there is no reason to not offer at least one variant of a fully specced Cruze to the indian consumer.
