The EPS units are too sensitive for my liking.

And there are very few* Cars which come with a stellar of an engine for ~5L(tallking about ZXi)

*I can't recall any.

Having test-driven at least 10-12 cars in the last couple of months, here is my opinion.
The worst
  • I20 - does anyone have any doubts on it? It is by far the worst, period!
Best -
  • Punto (though little heavy to maneuver in the city)
  • Fiesta

Best would be
- Fiat Punto
- Zen non-ps

Worst would be
- Mahindra Scorpio
- Any Hyundai

PS: I regularly drive all of these, so no brand loyalties at play. :P

Absolute Best
-Honda Civic (although some may find it a bit too heavy, personally thats the reason I love it, absolutely phenomenal feedback)

Worst
- NHC
- i20 (people seem to unanimously agree this has horrible steering feedback)

Best Fiat punto, Lancer, Fiesta in that very order. I am surprised not many of you have mentioned the Lancer.
worst Verna, Scorpio, NHC

While the EPS steerings are 'light', I don't find them 'sensitive' or 'responsive' to driver inputs.
I have observed this with NHC and now ANHC-Steering is little hard at the start (as if there is a magent which is holding it from moving) but when you do move it, it becomes very free. Also, when it moves, you get a feeling that an 'unknown' hand it moving it and you don't have fine control. It is, as if the steering stops only at predetermined intervals.
On the other hand, the HPS units feel little heavy but allow very fine steering corrections.

I love the NHC Vtec steering in the city . It is just so easy to park and take U turns . It is perfect for city driving atleast .

I find the Swift steering is good too .

For Highway drving among the cars I have driven the Optra is nice .

This thread has become rather subjective.
Take me for example.
The Palio steering for example is considered best in class and i find it brilliant for distances <200 km(especially Very Bad roads where each bump/pothole can be felt ).
I have driven a palio for over 700kms on a stretch and ended up with a rather cranky wrist.
But same distance on a Electric assisted innova was a breeze.
A lot of people here claim the i20 has the worst handling of the lot. Well 98% of the people out here are not even going to reach the full potential of say the palio/punto/polo or the i20 for the matter of fact.

Best - fiat adventure , sx4 , palio , . Cant comment on ford vehicles as have only driven two of them , Fiesta and figo didn't feel that great about fiesta .

Worst - verna , i20 ,chevrolet cruze.

It is absolutely correct that fiat(palio, adventure etc) steering wheel let you know every pothole in our road. I too dont think it is good as your wrist cant take that toll .It owes to mounting of steering box in a peculiar way . But when you negotiate a corner or makes a maneuver you can really enjoy the kind of feedback you get .

Hyundai Santro Non-PS has good steering feedback,
but is a pain to steer in speeds <10kph.

Even Santro Hydraulic PS is good, very precise and well weighted. I feel it is the best in that generation of hatches - but handling is affected by the tall boy design and the unsettled ride at the rear

Best in this side of 10 lacs - FORD!!.. the IKON's is just mindblowing.

Worst this side of 10 lacs - Hyundai. , They couldve provided the i20 with a joystick instead of a steering. Same case with wagonR.

its not that everyone simply says fiat steering feel and feedback is good. it will make one feel truly within 100meters of drive and the same feel continues till it touches its top speed, i have driven all the fiat cars in india from millecento to punto, its simply great, but not to underestimate other cars like old ZEN, 118NE, matiz, spark,
