The Chevy Cruze, the Fortuner and the Bullet seem to the most-used names in this thread. No wonder all three are selling so well in the market currently!

If I choose one machine, then definitely the Merc C.
In any case I would not like to have more than 2 machines at any point of time, therefore in the budget my choices would be the Skoda Laura TSI, and the Mahindra Scorpio AUTOMATIC. Both the machines cover the most bases for me.

Option C for me, since it makes sense.

I would really like to buy these 3 cars for a 30 L budget:--

(1) Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet Aura(4.7L *) . I would have chosen Swift VDi but the months waiting sets me off. Compared to swift , one could get this vista early. In a conjested city like New delhi , this vista will suit me fine especially for city driving, has lots of space , shall be easy to maintain under our preferred mechanic from the first service to last--Our preferred mechanic is adept when it comes to dealing with Indica problems!!.

(2) Chevrolet Cruze LTZ AT(13.7L *) . As the advertisement says 'Its a Diesel rocket' and no doubt it is, as i have driven one. I would drive it most of the time on our indian Highways trying to satiate the adrelanine rush thanks to its performance.

(3) Tata Safari DICOR VX 4x4(11.6L *). The two cars above will be driven by me only, this one though is for my younger brother. He is the only one in the family who loves SUV, me and my mother are willing to be on the back seats of Safari but none of us willing to drive and my Father , shuts out that proposition with the title 'buying SUV' !!? . The very moment my younger brother insinuates one reason for buying an SUV, immediately my Father fires back with 10 reasons why we shouldn't consider the 'SUV' proposition let alone buy it. In the past two year's, 3 of his friends have bought the safari on my younger brother's advice and yet he is still yearning for it. So this one should be for my younger brother.

I chose option c.It does makes more sense to have an assortment of cars.

A practical super bike like the Bandit 1200 for sure- May be an entry level Harley for the exclusivity .

A good second hand SUV for say 12 lacs like the CRV or a Pajero.

With the rest of the Money I will take up flying lessons for micro-light flying and may be buy one. These dont come expensive. But I will need a hanger not a garage ,eh!

Actually GTO the 30 lakh rupee garage is a great idea to ponder with.
But there is one thing that has to be considered is that the moment one thinks of a second hand buy ,he has to keep cash ready as loans and deals are not attractive .

cheers,
Naj

Default Option C.

I'd take option C with both hands.
  1. W124, E220 for 5 lakhs.
  2. W140, S600 for 20 lakhs.
  3. W201, 190D 2.5 for 4 lakhs.
The prices I listed include cost of repairs etc. 1 lakh is a small figure as a reserve specially since dealing with old cars can throw up unexpected expenses. Of course these aren't all the cars I hope to own. Add a W116, W126, W123 and another W124! Though the 30 lakhs does manage to fit in 1 each of the C, E & S Classes.

This is my new list:

- a pre-owned Skoda Octavia vRS Pete'd to 240 horses (12 lakhs including mods)

- a brand new black Honda Brio S(o)-MT (5 lakhs + 1 lakh for bigger wheels/tyres, CAI and FFE)

For my 3rd set of wheels, I'd have to choose from the following two:

- a Mahindra Thar with some 4x4 mods like an intake-snorkel, knobby tyres, a winch, etc

- a pre-owned Ford Endeavour loaded with 4x4 mods and camping-equipment (like the one in the Safari Storme Expedition @ the 2012 Auto Expo)

Should be around 30 lakhs?

When I was in school, like I was about ten, I kept asking myself the same question and at that time, the question was an easy one and my answer was always this: "A mercedes benz and a Jeep and perhaps a bullet". At that age, I didn't know there was a c class e class and such. A benz was a benz.

Now, several years later, the question poses lot of challenges. First of all, 30 lakhs seems too less , second the choices are mind blowing. Assuming, someone else will pay for fuel and maintenance, here is my wishlist:

1. Chevy cruze
2. Mahindra Thar
3. Royal Enfield classic chrome
4. If any money is left, then I will buy an i10 AT for my wife, who likes smaller cars.

Sounds too much to ask?

Here's my list:-

1. A used (but has to be well-maintained) MS Grand Vitara 12,00,000/- (for forests & hills)
2. A brand new VW Vento TrendLine Diesel 9,30,000/- (for highways)
3. A brand new Suzuki Swift Vdi 6,50,000/- (for the city)
4. A brand new Honda CBR 250R 1,90,000/- (usual errands)
5. A brand new Giant Bicycle 30,000/- (for exercise)

The total comes to an exact 30,00,000/-! That would be my ideal garage.

Ofcourse, having all these and the term 'ideal garage' in a statement means I would have a nice, clean and covered shed to park all my beauties there.
