This shows that Hyundai mid size sales have crossed those of Ford and Honda!
Has hyundai started giving discounts on Verna!?
Overall a very bad month as compared to March-07 for mid sizers.
Even compared to Apr-06 Apr 07 sales have taken a beating!!
Looks like high interest rates are starting to pinch? Or is it just that people were postponing purchases to wait for SX4.
May numbers should be interesting.

Interest rates have started pinching and auto sales are down not only for cars but also two wheelers and commercial vehicles. There are significant things about 4/06 and 4/07 figures:
1. Santro/Getz is down. But that could be because of diversion to export. Hyundai exported 9970 Santro/Getz in 4/07, but 9193 in 4/06.
2. Midsize segment was booming in 2005, but has lost a lot of steam in 2006-07, and growth here is trailing the industry.
3. Civic is doing extremely well and its share in segment has stabilised at 46-47%.

I think the Hyundai sales figures are for all of their cars in the "mid-size (4001-4500mm)" segment including Getz, Accent and Verna.

No, just accent and Verna, Getz gets clubbed in with the santro. If getz was more than 4001mm then hyundai would not have done the 1.1 liter engine thingy.

Has been a bad month for tata:

Sales down 4% YOY.Tata Motors' sales of commercial vehicles in May 2007 in the domestic market declined by 6% to 20,675 units. M&HCV sales fell by 17% to 10,500 units while LCV sales were up 10% at 10,175 units.

The passenger vehicle business reported total sales of 17, 580 vehicles in the domestic market in May 2007, a decline of 3% over May 2006. The Indica reported sales of 12,002 units, a fall of 3% over May 2006. The Indigo family sales slumped 22% to 2,215 units.

The Sumo and Safari sales rose 18% to 3,363 units.

GM India May sales up 56%

NEW DELHI: General Motors India on Friday reported a 56 per cent increase in sales during May on the back of its newly-launched Chevrolet Spark.
The company sold 5,432 units in May this year as against 3,476 units in the corresponding month of the previous year, GM India said in a statement.
The sales comprise 2,000 units of hatchback Chevrolet Spark, 1,807 units of multi utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, 1,413 units of Chevrolet Aveo/Aveo U-VA and 212 units of sedan Chevrolet Optra, it said.
"The recently launched Chevrolet Spark is making serious inroads into the small car segment and we are very pleased with the positive response we have received from our customers,'' GM India Vice President Marketing Ankush Arora said.
The company would soon launch a diesel variant of its premium sedan Chevrolet Optra. - PTI

India`s largest passenger car maker, Maruti Udyog (Q, N,C,F)* registered 11.2% growth in number of vehicles sold (including exports) to 59,400 units in May 2007 compared with 53,396 units in May 2006.

In the domestic market the sales of vehicles surged 9.92% to 55,952 units in May 2007 compared with 50,904 units in May 2006.

The company`s volume in the domestic C segment grew by 22.7%, while in the A3 segment the sales grew by 103.8%, while the A2 segment posted a growth of 7.8% during the month.

Recently the company reported a 24.28% growth in net profits for the quarter ended March, 2007. During the quarter, the company` profits rose to Rs 4,485.60 million from Rs 3,609.20 million in the same quarter, a year ago.
Net sales for the quarter rose 35.18% to Rs 44297.60 million compared with the corresponding quarter, a year ago.

Shares of the company dropped Rs 5.90, or 0.72%, to trade at Rs 823.55 at the BSE. The total volume of shares traded was 47,784. (11.09 a.m, Friday)

3 per cent decline in the passenger vehicle business during May 2007.

Pune June 7, Production of passenger cars at the Tata Motors' Pune plant has been cut to the tune of 20 per cent, while the launch of the new Indica, scheduled for launch in September, also appears to have been deferred to make adjustments for a drop in sales.

Since the last couple of days, production of the Indica, Marina and Indigo models at the Pimpri facility has been curtailed from 750 vehicles per day to 600 a day. Though, company sources say that this schedule is expected to last through the next few months, an official spokesperson denied that there had been any cut in the production of passenger cars, maintaining that the measure was restricted to commercial vehicles alone.


Dip in sales

As per the sales figures provided by Tata Motors, the company saw a 3 per cent decline in the passenger vehicle business during May 2007, against the corresponding month last year. Indica reported sales of 12,002, a decline of 3 per cent over May 2006, while the Indigo family suffered higher losses with sales of 2,215, showing a sharp decline of 22 per cent over the same month last year.

Interestingly, the Sumo and the Safari, which are not part of the aforementioned 750, accounted for sales of 3,363, an increase of 18 per cent over May 2006.

While a cut in the commercial vehicle production is "in line with market dynamics, due to the impact of the high interest rate regime on retail sales," Tata Motors is set to launch three new products in the market, two in the commercial vehicle segment and one in the passenger space.

New Products

One is the soft-top Ace, while the second is the Xenon, the new avatar of the original Tatamobile. Also on the launch pad is the `Winger', modelled on Renault's `Traffic' and a 14-seater passenger mini-bus that is expected to come at an "unbelievably attractive" price tag.

VGT still sells without discount but there a few discounts for the petrol variants.....
I think Swift D & SX4 are gonna rock the sales figures for the Maruti in the coming months
