one of the change that we can see in car market today is that ,for the first time GM has shown itself as producer of cars in mass scale,the launch of chevrolet brand made GM very aggressive.they are trying to trap the market in a big way ,optra magnum,spark,aveo,uva,srv are all good machines launched in a small time period. and now we are expecting captiva,GM has not been this active so active earlier,or maybe
that time was not right.

Hey guys,
hows the Fiesta V/S Verna battle turning out?
Anyone have sales figures for those cars?
And as for the SX4, i read the low numbers are because the production was shut off for 10 days in June.
Wonder how it'll do after a few months.

Thanks Rahul, thats some data
The key points for June
1. Fiat sold 305 Palio and 14 Petras(Old stock most probably)
2. Tata indica sales dropped from 12,271 to 11,727
3. Santro/Getz sales dropped from 14,386 to 14,386
4. Maruti is on a roll 27000 to 3700 in Alto/wagonR/estilo/swift
5. GM sold 2355 spark
6. Ford sold 2,535 Fusion+Fiesta_Ikon
7. GM could just manage 376 midizers, down from 1000 last year
8. Maruti sold 3,923 SX4+Esteem
9. Honda sold 2,656 cities
10. Lancer cedia gained 20% with 1,234
11. Hyundai sold 2,593 Verna+Accent, looks like they are neck to neck with ford
12. 2,380 Logans got sold. Not much of a Log-Off is it?
13. Tata managed 2,354 indigo's down from 2800 last year.
14. Lower D is dominated by civic 1,364, with Octavia at 967. Optra/Corolla are around 500
15. Only 67 elantras as compared to 260 accords
16. Tata sold 1,897 Safaris

So in passenger car space Tata is getting whipped, along with Hyundai. Logon sells same as indigo, which is bad news for a new car.

Thanks Rahul.

Some more interesting points.

- Only 21 Tucsons were sold in June compared to 123 Pajeros. Add to this the fact that only 67 Emberas got sold and the picture looks really bad for Hyundai.

- Pajero sales have doubled compared to last year. Looks like there are lots of people who are willing to pay for its legendary off-road capabilities and lousy interiors.

- Endeavour sales remain the same. The new model isn't helping.

Any breakup for the wagonR ? I see this car (the new model) everywhere these days. Even the call centers have adopted it since the introduction of the LPG DUO. Seems to be a big hit. Specially after the facelift.

Thats really good , hope that wasnt a typo. 1000 units a month in that class is quite a commendable perfomance considering that their level of advertising is far below that of the segment leader civic !

Either you haven't seen the new pajero or your idea of good interiors is that of Maybach's

Maxbhp,

I was talking about Pajero that is sold in India. I guess by new Pajero, you meant Montero which is out of my reach (costs 40 lakhs on road in India).

Even cars which costs less than 10L have better interior quality than Pajero which costs 22L.

Cedia sold 1234 units in June! So it's outselling the Octavia which has the diesel advantage and the Corolla and is within touching distance of the Civic! It's probably not doing well in Mumbai at least. I see plenty of Civic's everyday and just one or two Cedia's after plenty of days!

What about the Optra Magnum? Also, any figures of the Palio Stile?

I wouldnt consider HM's 1200+ unit sales as good compared to the Civic.
THey have taken the pricing to Honda City probably making a gap for the new lancer to fit. (I wish ) so basically Its the octavia which is selling well after so many years without any major price revisions.

Ahem: Was somebody commenting about low resale for cedia due to low sales?

Montero and Pajero are selling hot though.

There is a , between lancer and cedia so figure includes both the lancer and the cedia ,the ambassador has not been mentioned but has also been included in this figure since this is the segment[A3 4001mm to 4500mm] to which it also belongs.
So essentially it is lancer + cedia + ambassador = 1234

305 units for june 2007

Quote:
What about the Optra Magnum?
496 units for june 2007[includes both petrol + diesel],don't have a breakup for the optra magnum.

So now the toyota corolla has the distinction of being last in the segment,leaving aside the elantra.

July 2007 figures out:

Baleno + esteem[read as sx4 instead of baleno] -> 4394
Gypsy + vitara -> 524

Source:
Maruti Udyog Ltd: Maruti 800, Alto, Zen, Wagonr, Versa, Esteem, Baleno, Grand Vitara, Gypsy, finance, insurance, accessories, true value, fleet management solutions

Honda city -> 2626
Honda crv -> 225

Considering average monthly sales of the esteem,the sx4 has overtaken the honda city again this month[however need a confirmed source to prove the same]
