This is from Hyundai Website...
Hyundai registers an overall growth of 16.1% in Nov `07 Domestic Sales rise by 15.4%
New Delhi, December 3rd, 2007: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, registered an impressive growth in the month of November 2007, as it recorded an overall growth of 16.1% in November 2007 over the same month last year. Also with the launch of new compact car i10 across India, the domestic sales grew by 15.4 % while the exports grew by 17.3% over November, 2006.
The total sales stood at 28,944 units. While the domestic market accounted for 19,052 units, exports totaled 9,892 units in November 2007. The cumulative sales for November, 2006 had been 24,932 units.
Commenting on the November sales, Arvind Saxena, Vice-President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said: “ After the successful launch of the much awaited compact car i10 on 31st October 2007, Hyundai was able to sell over 10,000 units of the i10 since then, which clearly shows that the i10 is on its way to becoming a winner. As compared to last year, the sales have significantly increased for this month and we are positive that we will be able to keep the momentum going in the coming months.”
The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of November 2007 are as follows: A1 Segment — 25, 443 units; A2 Segment – 3, 455 units; A3 Segment — 1 units; A4 Segment — 34 units; and SUV Segment — 11 units

So if my assumption on segments is correct:
Santro + i10 + Getz = 25443 Units
Accent + Verna = 3455 Units

The truth is that sales growth has declined for comparable products (GM launched Spark only in 2007). This may be true for all manufacturers (as numbers expected to be out next week shall prove) and hence the need for higher spin.
LOL! Good on you to point that out. Now if only the journalists would be smarter than to print whatever the press releases throw at them.

New Delhi, December 3rd, 2007:
Another spin. Of course, sales are up from 1 year ago (is it acceptable to give sales growth from say Nov. 98!) as they would be all, except for a unfortunate few. But still as a credit to Hyundai, they say domestic sales are 19052 in Nov, which is an increase from 18207 in Oct. Could be due to the i10, but also because of higher sales of Santro/Getz.

Add the heavy Rs.50K discounts offered on the Spark to push it in the market. Also, I am sure there are VERY good discounts on the Aveo and Aveo UV-A too. Even their Optra Diesel has failed hasn't it? Even after the launch of the diesel their sales have stagnated at about 450-500 units.

Spark is selling less than the tavera.

For all the hype that sorrounded the car, this is tragedy. Even the Estilo (which was predicted to be murdered when Spark came out) is selling 3/4 times more than the Spark.

Not even able to sell their production capacity of 2k cars per month!

According to ET news, Maruti Sales up by 24% in Nov .

Quote:
65,216 units against 52,574 units in the corresponding month last year.
Sales in November are MSIL's highest ever in a single month, beating the previous best of 64,556 units achieved in March this year. Alto also achieved its highest ever sales in a single month at 22,784 units. The previous best for the Alto was 22,294 units in October 2006.
And more good news, Honda sales marginally down
This is good because Honda should feel the heat and reduce the huge premium they charge plus eventually think about adding more safety standards to their products.

Ha! Ha!. Fat chance. The segment where Honda has seen a sudden fall in Nov 07 is City which is down from 3552 in Oct to 2468 in Nov. SX4 has again gained as apparent from Maruti's sales figures. Civic is down only marginally (1421 to 1375), but Accord is up from 188 to 268, and CRV from 125 to 314. So they are selling less of cheaper cars and more of expensive cars. By my reckoning, their sales value has declined by 6-7% over Oct 07, even though volumes have declined 19.5% (from 5286 in Oct 07 to 4425 in Nov 07).

The slack in auto market is generalised for most (except for perhaps MUL and Hyundai), and with year end coming, and Budget expectations in Feb 08, do not expect any pick up till Mar 07. That means good discounts to be had on most models of all cars (except perhaps for i10 which is new, small, and cheap). Also for Swift Diesel.

My relative who owned a 11 year old Zen exchanged it for an Estilo, wherein he was offerred 1.08 lakhs for the old Zen. Besides that there were some discounts and dealer freebies which he received as well. Now he owns an Estilo, while i just hate the very sight of the car.

Any idea if SX4/ City is leading in sales?

TATA has 51k discounts for Indica V2, Indigo. 72k discount for Safari and offers 44k discount for Palio as part of their million cars offer!

Relative's envy, owner's pride.

Hey Man, Honda's initial minimum target for NHC was around 20K per year. That around 1700 per month. The car is selling double that number . Why will Honda reduce price & cause bad feeling among current customers

Don't complain too much about the figure of the spark yet gentlemen (and ladies if any . . .) I read somewhere that the spark is going to get the 1.3L multijet diesel next year. Since the Swift diesel is selling for 5.5L on road in bangalore, we can safely assume that the Spark diesel will sell for 5L on road in bangalore. What happens to the sales figure of the spark then, eh? What?
In any case the petrol engine of the spark is already having one of the most modern (the U-VA engine came out in 2007 and the spark engine came out in 2005, I think) in the market and the current discount of 30K is actually good VFM. The alto engine came out in 2002 and the spark engine is actually a kind of improvement over the alto engine, if I am not mistaken. People are just not getting it here . . .

Reducing price shortly after launch leads to bad taste among customers, and can do little with sales.
A family member had the Matiz which they really loved. So when spark came they bought that.
1 month later the price went down by 50K. Now he has decided that the midsize they will buy will not be a GM car.

Wonder if such similar stories about GM cars are out there. With MUL and others, levels of discounts vary in a narrow range. But with GM, it is pure haggling and even after finalising the amount, you never know what more you could have got (or someone else is getting). My example: Corsa advertised at 5.35 lakhs in Mar 03. When I bought it, it was advertised at 4.99 lakhs in Sep 03. It went even lower in 2004-05, and was even higher in 2002. So a person who say bought a Corsa in 2002 saw a 1 lakh price reduction in 1 year.

Another example: Optra in Feb 07 had discounts of 60-110K on 1.6 based on which dealer you talked to and were close to finalising. 1.8AT had 2lakhs discount. Bottomline: GM sticker prices are like price tags on electronics (Rs. 34995). What you pay depends entirely on you. As a search of this post will tell, GM dealers are also not above giving your `to be delivered car' for a TD.

I think City leads. NHC sold 2468 units.

Total SX4+Esteem sales were 4260 units compared to last year when Esteem alone sold 2083 units. Assuming Esteem sales are down by 10%, that means Maruti sold 1875 units (2083-10%) of Esteem. Round it off to 1900 units.

That means SX4 sold 2360 units (4260-1900).

NOTE: All assumptions are my personal ones so don't flame me for any discrepencies.
