It should be the Fusion as it is categorised under Compact Car by its 4000mm length and it gets compact car tax benefits. The tax benefit doesn't show up in the price is a different story! ;-)

See the news item from Hyundai Motors India

Quote:
Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter, registered an impressive growth in the month of February 2008, as it recorded a 50.5 % increase in exports over February, 2007.

The overall sales stood at 29,001 units. While the domestic market accounted for 14,600 units, exports totaled 14,401 units in February 2008. The cumulative sales for February, 2007 stood at 25,026 units, domestic sales accounted for 15,459 units and the exports stood at 9,567 units.

...

The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of February 2008 are as follows: A1 Segment — 24,563 units; A2 Segment – 4,402 units; A4 Segment — 27 units; and SUV Segment — 9 units.
From these figures it is clear that now they export more (13,080) than they sell locally for A1 segment (i10, Santro and Getz).

Feb 2008 BSM stated that Hyundai may have over-engineered i10 aiming for the export markets. I think kudos to Hyundai for making 'Made in India' synonymous with quality.

Thats a biiiig misconception you have there my friend.... offering manual transmission is not gonna generate more sales. In this segment automatic transmission is the preferred choice by laaaaaaaarge.

2. TATA Indica- 12,360
3. Maruti WagonR- 11,198.

4. Hyundai i10- 11,009

The more expensive Innova used to be a part of the top 10 list too.

As you would know, there was a lot of difference (largely negative) in sales of 1/08 quoted and sales of 2/08. There is also expected to a bot of difference (positive) in 3/08 sales. Instead of 1 month, A better way is to compare year on year.

Autocar India top10- February 2008. (published in April 2008 issue)

1. Maruti Alto- 19,632
2. Maruti WagonR- 12,146.
3. TATA Indica- 10,129.

4. Maruti Swift- 9,188.
5. Maruti Omni- 6,997.
6. Hyundai i10- 5,879.

7. Maruti 800- 5,745.
8. Mahindra Bolero- 4,788.
9. Hyundai Santro- 4,704.
10. TATA Indigo- 3,322.

  • Hyundai small car sales crashed in Febraury from 19,730 units in Jan 2008 to 10,583 units in February 2008.
  • Maruti Swift is on a high. If i remember correctly, this is the first time the Swift is coming in the fourth place in the ACI top-10. Would be intersting to note what effect that DZIRE has on this sales!
  • Honda City is out, and TATA Indigo has joined the party.
  • Maruti 800 seems safe after the preview of the i10 in the Delhi auto expo. The predicted huge fall in the numbers hasn't happened just yet.
