@vasudeva: any idea of the breakup between the i10 and the santro for the 21242 units in May?

Default Top 10 April 2008

This June edition of ACI has some very interesting figures in the Top 10.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift is in the third position. It has overtaken Hyundai i10, Hyundai Santro and TATA Indica! And is too close to the Suzuki WagonR as well, which is in the 2nd place. Wonder if the swift can make it to the 2nd place overall!

Indica sales seem to be falling steadily, may be due to Indigo CS. Bolero seems to be having a very good lead over the Innova to become the top selling people carrier in the market.

Maruti 800 is almost out of the top-10.

1. Maruti Suzuki Omni- 21,191.
2. Maruti Suzuki WagonR- 9,911.
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift- 9,490.

4. Hyundai i10- 9,033
5. Hyundai Santro- 8,301
6. Maruti Suzuki Omni- 7,612

7. TATA Indica- 7,430
8. Mahindra Bolero- 5,315
9. Toyota Innova- 4,512
10. Maruti Suzuki 800- 4,458.

Very much possible that people are gravitating towards smaller FE cars in India, especially with the 10% hike in petrol/diesel prices. So, even if MUL were thinking of phasing out the M800, I guess the sales figures will make them retain the car.

Also note the sudden sales jump of Fiat Palio from 2/08. Perhaps the entire increase is because of diesel Palio.

Top three manufacturers from country viz maruti, hyundai, & tata have shown growth in June passing the inflation & fuel price surcharge effect.
maruti has shown a marginal growth of 2.2%

Maruti sales

There is a downside for some models viz from maruti stable Maruti 800, Omni, Versa have shown negative growth while Dezire, SX4, GV & Gypsy have shown solid growth while A2 segment has shown marginal growth.

Hyundai domestic sales up 34 pc in June- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

The foremost gainer of all three is Hyundai which has shown a stupendous growth of 34%. The star performer is i10 & Verna.

Tata Motors sales up 6.61% in June- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

Tata has shown a 6.6% increase in sales but that is combined of all sales. Indica has reported a negative gowth of 27% but Indigo family thanks to Indigo CS has shown a growth of 102%.

Thumbs up

For Honda:
  • Accord: 843
  • CR-V: 294;
  • Civic: 1104;
  • City ZX: 2507;
Accord has entered new territory (it has more sales than many of sub 10L sedans ). Civic is back where it was (wonder how many of those were Hybrids). CR-V numbers are excellent. Even with fuel crisis, NHC holds its ground. With NC (New City) expected in 3 months time, will NHC numbers going down? Or the i-DSI fans drive the sales up?

No, Maruti has not disclosed the same seperately. The combined sales of Dzire and SX4 is 5807 units. Given that MSIL has a manufacturing capacity of 3900 Dzires/month, SX4 should amount to approximately 1900 units.

Passenger Vehicles
The passenger vehicle business achieved total sales of 17,017 vehicles in the domestic market in June 2008, a marginal decline of 2% over 17,418 nos. sold in June 2007. The Indica reported sales of 8,560 nos., a decline of 27% over June 2007. The Indica, while being in its mature phase, continues to see a significant portion of its volumes migrate to the attractively priced Indigo CS sedan. The Indigo family recorded sales of 4,747 nos., a strong 102% growth over June 2007. The Sumo and Safari accounted for sales of 3,710 nos., a growth of 11% compared to June 2007. Growth could have been higher but for the adverse impact of the sudden and unexpected increase in excise duties in the latter half of the month. The Sumo recorded a 9% growth over June 2007, with sales of 2,196 nos. Safari sales at 1,514 nos., grew by 15%.

Cumulative sales of passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were 51,094 nos., a minor decline of 1% over the same period last year. Cumulative sales of the Indica at 25,676 nos., reported a decline of 26% with part of its sales moving to the Indigo range. Cumulative sales of the Indigo family were 13,052 nos., a strong growth of 81%. Cumulative sales of Sumo and Safari were 12,366 nos., a growth of 23%. The Sumo recorded a 34% growth with sales of 7,771 nos., while Safari sales at 4,595 nos. grew by 8%.

So the City ZX still beats the SX4 in the sales? SX4 will require a major facelift in the near future that N3HC is around the corner. 1.9 DDIS would be ideal for SX4.

I don't think any major lift will be done on existing SX4, Maruti will just bring SX4 Diesel (not sure it will be 1.9 DDIS) which will give the competition.
