Default GM India to increase prices???

As per this report
GM India may hike prices for second time this year , yes.

On a time, when GM is slowly losing whatever grip it had on the indian market, it is definitely not a wise move.

And what their India VP is saying that they are quite happy with the "growth" that they are foreseeing. Really!!! Even after the recent months' numbers!!!

But more important question is, would other manufacturers follow suit?

I doubt GM India would increase prices as all their models are under pressure. GM is known for giving huge discounts and not raising prices. This is an eyewash because you can negotitiate the best deals from GM India

^ I was told by Skoda sales that Fabia prices might go up from next month. So, despite no changes in excise duty, the manufacturers might still want to increase prices.

Thanfully all the sms messages prompting price increase due to excise hike are done and finished. But really excise duty hike was only a gimmick to raise prices. Car makers continue to increase prices no matter what. But anyway whatever increase GM goes ahead with can surely be nullified by negotiations with the dealer.

Read in todays newspaper , GM 'may consider' increasing the prices , if the input costs continue to grow !

Excise or no excise, isn't it reasonable for OE's to increase prices every year by a marginal 2-4%? Inflation in our country is a known fact and it reflects everywhere. Our salaries go up by some % every year so do the salaries of employees of OE's, their vendors, everyone.

While as customers, we would always want the products to cost lesser and lesser but that ain't realty. So why the concern as long as the increase is reasonable?

Not so long ago GM was number 5 in india, now ford has overtaken them, and toyota is on the verge of doing that. I am not saying GM is not growing, they are growing slower than the competition.

That is because they virtually have nothing to sell in fast growing B+ and C segment .

Personally,I think GM is having very well priced and very well featured products in 2 segments - Cruze and Captiva. Both are VFM as far as their competition is concerned. The new Captiva which may come by May will be an absolute killer.

GM needs a slew of refreshes

New Spark, New UVA, New Aveo, New Optra, New Captiva.

Their stable looks very very stale save Beat and Cruze

Minor price revisions are part and parcel of this industry and they have to pass it on, How many times we have come across these price hikes in the news papers, bu the Hyundais, Marutis and so on.

As for Chevy, they are revamping their line up and look set to unleash a bunch of revised cars. Let see what happens and hope they plan their marketing right

It would be interesting to see how other OEM's react to this proposed hike by GM. Will they stick on to their current prices or will they take a cue from GM and increase their prices. It is well known that Ford does not get huge margins for their cash cow 'Figo'.(Hence no discount even for employees of Ford) . They may be tempted to increase the prices by 1-2 % which they can then use to give discounts and lure more customers
