What mods has your conty been through? and What mods has psycho's conty been through?

The second is the rear suspension (although the front is perfect with the double wishbone job)
isuzu engine 1.8 petrol? isnt that the same engine that HM uses for conty and Ambassador. Just do a turbo and you are ready to go.

I've changed my engine from the 1.8 Petrol to a 2.4 Diesel.
Got the AC blower changed to a SuperKing and the compressor to a Sanden SD-507.
no other mods yet...

Psycho's mods... he has a lot of them... better if he answers that himself!

Psycho's mods, in various stages, at various times include, turbo running 12 psi, forged internals, some crazy carburetion, 15" 205s...can't seem to remember anything else right now. But let me tell you, sitting in a 1.8 tonne car, that's accelerating like an RX 135, that's something else.

Here's an idea if you want a nice Indian rocket. Buy an old 800 like Edmund's for 30k. Buy a nice little Esteem engine and do it up for another 50k. Spend a little more, and you have a rather insane little hatchback, for under a lakh.

Or buy an old RWD and put a V8 in it.

How much will it cost to bring an American V8 engine to India (shipping , customs etc.). Anyone has any knowledge?
You can get engines at a really cheap price in North America, especially used ones.
My buddy's 2.2 L Ford Probe is lying in our house and he's going to junk it. I was thinking if I could do something with it by bringing it to India and fitting it in a used Esteem.

Will the 1.3 Esteem unit fit inside the old M800 engine bay (or even the new one for that matter)? Has this project been tried before?

And wont the car have to be stiffened and trengtened to a very large extent to handle the extra power, thus adding weight and reducing the effect of the power?

These are just doubts, mind. I just wanted to know if you have seen any projects like what you have mentioned.

If you want to fit anything into an Esteem, please make sure it was intended for FWD use and comes with its gearbox. That will make it slightly easier. Not easy, just slightly easier.

Islero, yes I have seen 16v MPFI Esteem engines putting out close to 100bhp in M800s. Don't know about stiffening, but the thing goes like greased lightning.

Sujay, it's VERY tough to import engines into India, more so if they're used. Look around in India, you might find something you like.

Have a couple of friends driving with M800 with 1.3 in them, 1 happens to be carburetted and another FI.

The chassis is keeping up till now but the space is a real tight nightmare.

Have seen both of them doing about 16.5 sec 1/4 mile times.

As for my Conti you can read all about it here:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/introd...old-timer.html (Hi from a young old timer)

Cant remember the thread where I had put up my turbo experiences.

Whoa!!! Awesome!!!

But what about the mounting points for the engine?? Wont they be very difffrent?

Arent the Zen-to-E Zen conversions easier because the Zen engine bay and the Esteem engine have similar mounting point positions? Then what about this one?

And are these 800's really driveable on the road without one killing oneself wiht all that uncontrollable power? lol

How about the other cars?

The Rovers, SIpanis, standards?

I guess they sell for the same price although available in much less numbers.

Devarshi,
even we have a conti tucked away in Akola.
I love that car and have been thinking about modifying it too as no one seems intrested in buying ours when it was for sale so we kept it with us.
It was a 1988 model.
Quite old but nice.
It is fully stock except that we have changed the exteriors a bit when we got it painted and new upholstry on the inside.
Does anyone know where in Mumbai i can get the Isuzu 1.8Lt engine with gearbox and for how much?

lamborghini, that would be a nice project. Especially keeping in mind the new charger/challenger designs, you can make this car a looker.

A newer petrol conty would be available to you for a lower price of 50k.

an Isuzu 1.8 with gearbox should be in the same price range I suppose. But better check the prices.

BTW why look at at the Isuzu engine only when you can buy a bigger and more powerful engine? Check out the options available around.
