Default Speedway 2011 Results, Overview & Pictures

Alright, here is a quick report..

I went there post lunch, so missed out on some of the action.

The turnout was less but there were some nice cars around. I didnt take many pictures but hope somebody else has.

Some of the good cars ones i remember are

A silver Evo X, sounded like it was modified. There was a red one in the last event.
The white Evo VI,
A.R Shabbirs Supra from Bangalore. ( sounded like it was having some issues, it has surely seen better days )
SL55 AMG,
An Orange Corvette ( not sure it was racing, didnt see any runs )
Focus RS,( not sure it was racing, didnt see any runs )
White 350Z
and Ofcourse the mad turbo civic amd the Nissan Cefiro frio from hell.

In all a sunday well spent, there was less of spectator crowd, so lesser chaos. However where are all the other players? no participation from KS motorsport, didnt spot any game over cars either apart from a lone Esteem, very few team dragster cars, no ovaboost cars, very few N1 Racing and MKraft cars. I hope we get to see some more fast cars next time, considering we have so many fast cars in Bombay. The timing displays were not put up this time and were missed sorely. I am guessing the 1 lakh would have gone to one of the EVOs or is it the turbo OHC ?

The highlight of the day was the runs of the Cefiro, it was evidently struggling for traction and i even heard the driver saying that hes using only about 70 % throttle. They tried lowering the pressures on the slicks but the last run was way too scary, the car almost crashed and was swinging from right to left, but the driver somehow managed to put it back on straight line. This Cefiro is surely is a wild beast and kudos to the drive ( Ameesh ?? ). I have got a video of it shot from a cell phone which will give you an idea.

One of my fav Zens was also there, A.R shabbirs honda engined Zen. But again this was having some issues with the nitrous and didnt appear to be as fast as it used to be.

Some of the timings i could remember is the Supra doing a 13.3 and Cefiro doing 13.1, hopefully someone should put up the timings and a better report with some pictures.

Here are the videos i managed from my cellphone.

Default Speedway 2011 Results, Overview & Pictures

This was the first drag racing event I attended since Speedrun 2008 and I can easily say AR Motorsport has taken the right step forward to rescue the amateur drag racer!
Honestly speaking, I had very low expectations from the event (not that Speedun could ever be called organised). This is only because it was only their second attempt at organising a drag racing event and they also did not have the kind of branding & sponsors Speedrun raked in year after year. With the kind of resources (financial - seemingly low) to their disposal, the event went was organised above expectation, I would categorise it to be at amateur level than the initial perception of novice.
My prime reason for participation and presence was to put the Fireblade and myself through the quarter mile knife.

I was present for the Indian bikes & Foreign bikes categories and a few of the trial runs of the Indian cars. I would like to mention below some highlights of the Speedway 2011 alongwith a few pictures I snapped on my phone.
  • Very low participation through all categories, lacked local support. Apparently better support from teams down south.
  • About time local outfits like KS Motorsport, N1 Racing, Game Over, Team FS, etc came around and supported in finesse. If someone has taken intiative, it is only right for these drag focussed teams in and around Mumbai to swell the partcipation strength.
  • Governing authority for the event: IARC
  • Apart from trying to set discipline, I personally appreciate that most officials & members of the crew were very approachable. They clearly understood the shortcomings on a personal level, and did not come in your face with any air about themselves.
  • Blistering 10.216 time set by Shabbir on 2008 1000 RR for the O2 category, the fastest for the day.
  • Absence of timing screens - I understand it implies a certain cost, but they are the second most important from spectator point of view after the participating vehicles. The cost cutting should be moved to another point for the next event.
  • Ineffective security personnel. They had ample in number, but they just did not have it in them to keep the area 'clean'. It was only for the responsible participants, pit teams & spectators that the venue was not misused and the event steered away from any possible mishap. A 'better' security force should be considered for the next event.
  • Small but ample VIP area for the crowd sitting in there. It wasn't empty, but neither was it over occupied.
  • The white supra from Bangalore was back in town for action!
  • Heartening to see Red Bull sticking around local motorsport and supporting the event in its own unique way.
  • The event was co-sponsored by 104.00 Fever FM.
  • The sound system was adequate and of acceptable quality. The music helped in bringing some oomph to the event.

On a personal front I did the fastest time in practice, 10.95 to the quarter mile.
My final run was almost a replica of my practice run with a higher trap speed of 305.54 (second highest for the day) and timed it to 10.96.

^^Turbo Multiplication. Also I thought its you Manson and thought of coming to you but then lost track of time.

Also the Orange Corvertte did not run, he had come with his family and left within an hour.

My time with my P220 M was 16.3, it was better than my last run, satisfied, next time I will go to win my class and the Indian Open too.

Congrats Manson! I wouldn't say you were riding a superbike; rather you were flying too low . Great result for a first-time run at the drags.

Nice to hear that the event operations were conducted smoothly. However, the absence of timing screens is sacrilege!

Looks like links for the 3rd video i posted was removed due to foul language. You can still find it on youtube. Just to make it clear it was someone cursing one of the photographers who crossed the start line which could have disrupted the timing of the run.

A small thanks from the blr biking folks, a very nicely conducted event, bang on schedule, no airs, pure simple and straight racing, we got one bike, a RD350 and we got it spot on, nice timing, 1st place in the Indian open and cash to boot, first for an event I would guess, more than anything, the satisfaction factor was immense, a BIG THANK YOU.

hmmm timing pretty much close to what these bikes did in Hydb. Anthony and Subhan at the top. really good to see them giving reaction time as well unlike the last speedway event. wish we bangalore boys didnt have to travel all the time to race, high time we have a drag organized in bangalore , it sure would be mindblowing .

Just a little curious, this time Antony pulled a 12.1 ET, has anybody gone faster than this in any prior event, any info on this would be very helpful.

Just a bit curious. Saw that most of the Skoda vRSs, all of them remaped with aftermarket exhausts etc etc., clocked late 16s and early 17s. Whereas, in my previous drag experiences in Mumbai and Hyderabad, I've seen bone stock ones clocking mid to late 15s. In fact, one of my friend's vRS, completely stock, ended up with a 15.3 at 2008 speedrun. So what's the issue here? Are tuners actually making these cars slower? Maybe to make them more environment friendly
