Default Track Marshalls for Indian GP - 2011

This thread is for all track marshals for Indian GP. I invite all Team-bhpians who are officiating the event to share info here.

And when you introduce yourselves, also share whether you have opted for Flag marshal or Intervention marshal.

Ok, first thing first.

All marshals/officials need to email their passport size photographs Face/Passport/Visa photo 2"x2" (51x51mm) to Philip George.

Please mention the respective departments in the email subject.

Default Chapter 1 - Recognising cars, thier numbers and drivers

To begin with, the most daunting task for the Track marshals will be that of recognizing the cars and their drivers.

Now we all know that every car has an individual car number. But its hard or may be impossible to note down the numbers when these are zooming past you at speeds of 200 km/h and above.

So the solution:
1. The colour scheme of the car will tell us which team
2. The drivers helmet will tell us which car in the team (every team has two)
3. Color of the antenna above drivers head.

Of the above 2 and 3, the colour of the antenna is generally easier. This much we have discussed in the training. and I hope everybody is clear. Now the question is that we must remember:

1. Color schemes of the cars. Total 12 in number
2. Driver helmets (and preferably their names too): Total 24. But in case we start now, we might have to remember the helmet design of the reserve drivers too, as they may kick in if any of the main drivers are not able to race due to any circumstance. So, in total 36.
3. Antenna colors: Total 24. But technically it is 12 as we just have to say either 1 or 2. For eg. Mclaren one is off the track on drivers right. Simple.

So now we have the task of posting all 12 cars, 36 helmets and antenna colors and also drivers names.

Any volunteers for this job?

Let the fun begin!

What of the few who have opted to be boundary riders? I don't see an option for that. Can that option please be added to the poll? If not, do we just select Flag?

Interesting question. I guess these are just 12 and all of them have been handpicked from Chennai. Or is it?

At Mods - can we have one more option in the poll?

Thanx for posting this pic, Niranjan.

Just an initial observation. Nick Heidfield has been replaced by Bruno Senna in Renault. And also, most probably, Karun Chandok will replace Jarno Truli (Lotus) here in Delhi.

I guess we need one list on replacements too.

Another video to show the differences between the cars. I get a bit confused with Toro Rosso which is the second team owned by Red Bull.

BTW, 'Toro Rossso' means Red Bull in Italian. This is to keep the Italian legacy of Team Minardi, which was its former name.

Toro Rosso's two drivers are
1. Sébastien Olivier Buemi. Heis a swiss driver.

2. Jaime Víctor Alguersuari Escudero [ˈxaime alɣerˈswaɾi] Spanish drive.

I am attaching few pics of current 2011, STR6 car.

You will be able to make out difference between the two Red Bull by colour of nose cone and air intake . Gold for Torro Rosso and Yellow for Red Bull Racing

I just found this website: Zimbio - Interactive Magazine
Good for pictures of all top drivers and cars.

1 and a combination of 2 & 3 are really usefull tools.

Let us start with right terminology. What is being referred to above as "antenna" is in F1 parlance actually referred to as the Camera or Camera Pod

I quote below from Formula 1

Quote:

To help distinguish between a team’s two cars, the onboard cameras which sit on top of the main rollover structure are coloured differently. On the first car it must be predominantly fluorescent red and on the second car it must be fluorescent yellow.
Unquote:

Please refer to the pictures of the RBR cars below. Lokk at what is highlighted in the green circle - you will understand what we are talking about.

In my experice and opinion this is the best combination for Track Marshalls.

Memmorise the Team Coulours - only 12 colours (easy enough)
Memorise who is 1 & 2 in each team (little difficult but still doable)

Red Camera = No. 1 Driver Yellow Camera = No 2 Driver (cake walk - after 1 & 2 above

So in the photo below - Red camera = Vettel and Yellow camera = Webber

Hope I have confused you further

All the Best!!

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Edited in: The picture of Webbers Car - I found it on the web but did not take note of the site. Please accept my sincere apologies and I hope the owner would condone the use here for the sake of sport of F1
