adman, track racing is a whole LOTT more about the driver than the car.
Its vice versa in DRAG racing.
I've been getting messages from friends and acquaintances about getting their cars prepped for the series.
Track racing involves lakhs and lakhs of money spent to make the car and driver race-ready.
Quoting Bow-Wow from Fnf 3: "Its not the car I'm worried about"!

2 ways to go about it.
1) Big budget way (we all wish we could do):
Buy the best car out there. Buy the best parts for it. Buy the best gear for yourself. Get the best tuner to prepare it.

2) Real world way (more fun IMO)
Buy an old Esteem (best bang for the buck) or OHC Type 1. Or if you already have one of these as your 2nd or 3rd car, use it. Put in a roll cage (about 25k), seat (6K), seatbelts (8K), suspension (start with basic Koni's maybe - 17K), tyres (hopefully subsidised by the sponsor). Drive it to the track with your tool box in the back. Get the MAI approved fire retardent race suit (6.5K) instead of the FIA homologated Sparco (25K). Get out on the track, have a blast, enjoy yourself. Don't break your head too much over the finishing position. Slowly build up the car as and when your finances allow you to. This way you will savour every race you do even more.

The point is that it doesn't matter what you're driving. Just get out there and friggin enjoy some good clean motorsport in its purest sense!

If the UK can have thousands of gentlemen drivers that do this every weekend of the year, there is no reason why we can't enjoy ourselves too.

Also, there will be bike races (both Indian and superbikes) on the same weekends as well, so you can even ride if that's what you prefer.

Any car sold in India is allowed! Even cars that whose production has stopped will be allowed. Heck, you can come with a Padmini if you want!

God give us a racetrack on our side of the world (namely Kolkata/Bengal). I cant be carrying my 1100d all the way to the south. But if I did, she will win going reverse.

Its interesting to note in the rule book that the cylinder head is free. Doesnt say anywhere that the casting has to be factory stock. Does this mean I can run a DOHC head on an Esteem or Ikon?

The whole point of the regulations seems to be to avoid swaps (since bzens and ezens and vzens aren't allowed). So I dont think using DOHC heads will be allowed either.

What would be the additional benefit of having a DOHC head on an Esteem as it already runs 16 valves with SOHC (will not putting an additional camshaft increase losses to some extent).

Where can we get a DOHC head for the Ikon (1.6)?
