Acropolis Rally of Greece

After SS13 Aghia Triada 2

1. Sebastien Loeb Citroen Total WRT C4 WRC 2hours 48mins 11.1secs M
2. Petter Solberg Subaru WRT Impreza WRC 2008 +00mins 28.7secs M
3. Henning Solberg Stobart VK Ford Focus WRC 07 +01mins 05.3secs MT
4. Mikko Hirvonen BP Ford Abu Dhabi Focus RS WRC 07 +03mins 01.2secs M
5. Urmo Aava PH Sport-Citroen C4 WRC +04mins 11.6secs A8
6. Matthew Wilson Stobart VK Ford Focus WRC 07 +04mins 22.8secs A8
7. Daniel Sordo Citroen Total WRT C4 WRC +05mins 33.6secs M
8. Jari-Matti Latvala BP Ford Abu Dhabi Focus RS WRC 07 +08mins 51.3secs M

Naren Kumar is at 27 position at the moment in the overall stage results. In P-WRC, he is 13th at the moment. His fastest stage was SS7 I guess, where he was 25th fastest. Must say, for his first stint in this rally and also in P-WRC, he his showing some good skills.

So far sad news for Subaru has been that Atkinson is out. He had to retire on SS8 due to damaged wiring. So bad debut for his car.

Gigi is out too on SS2, due to suspension damage.

Loeb leading as usual .. Strange that Latavala ain't breathing down his neck this time !!

As for Naren , I heard that he encountered some kind of turbo problem in the last stage of the day and ended up losing almost 10 mins so I doubt that he would still be in 13th place in the PWRC . But all in all it seems that he is doing a DAMN good job , and his stage times have been improving through the 2 days so hoping that mid way through the season we start seeing him at the top in the PWRC . Also on Day 1 the car had over heating problems , most of the Subarus did and hopefully this snag should get sorted out before the next event .

Lets see what happens tomorrow , quiet a few stages to be run on Day 3 !!

Acropolis Rally of Greece Results:

1. Sebastien Loeb Citroen Total WRT C4 WRC 3hours 54mins 54.7secs M
2. Petter Solberg Subaru WRT Impreza WRC 2008 +01mins 09.5secs M
3. Mikko Hirvonen BP Ford Abu Dhabi Focus RS WRC 07 +01mins 56.1secs M
4. Urmo Aava PH Sport-Citroen C4 WRC +04mins 19.7secs A8
5. Daniel Sordo Citroen Total WRT C4 WRC +04mins 49.4secs M
6. Matthew Wilson Stobart VK Ford Focus WRC 07 +06mins 11.3secs A8
7. Jari-Matti Latvala BP Ford Abu Dhabi Focus RS WRC 07 +06mins 47.5secs M
8. Henning Solberg Stobart VK Ford Focus WRC 07 +09mins 14.0secs MT

P-WRC Results:

1. Andreas Aigner Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX 4hours 16mins 06.7secs P
2. Bernardo Sousa Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +00mins 58.1secs P
3. Armindo Araujo Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +01mins 27.7secs P
4. Fumio Nutahara Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +02mins 12.9secs P
5. Evgeny Aksakov Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +06mins 54.9secs P
6. Evgeniy Vertunov Subaru Impreza WRX STi +08mins 01.4secs P
7. Juho Hanninen Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +09mins 00.3secs P
8. Loris Baldacci Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +10mins 32.8secs P
9. Amjad Farrah Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX +13mins 11.7secs P
10. Naren Kumar Subaru Impreza WRX STi +16mins 14.8secs P

Naren finished 23rd Overall. He was 24th on the overall rankings and 11th in P-WRC, but Mitsubishis Martin Rauam, who was 2nd, failed post-event scrutineering and hence was dissqualified.

@Mpower: There were overall 16 entries in P-WRC.

@khaadu75: Well Latvala was having a brilliant run, but day one, he caught a puncture, which made him lose the lead to Loeb, I guess on SS4 or SS5. Day two he had a bad run, as he hit a rock at high speed and damaged his right rear suspension. Was really hard on him I bet, cause he always has a good start, but has his luck going away from him in the mid segments. He gave brilliant last stint I must say, SS15, SS18, SS19 he was the fastest. Gigi too was on fire. But what really makes Loeb stand out, is his consistency. SS6, was his fastest stage and after that none. He had a continous smooth run and took the win. Hats off to him!

Default Naren finishes 11th on PWRC debut

India’s Naren Kumar battled persistent car problems and rough terrain that saw 26 competitors out of the original 60 fall by the wayside to notch a creditable 11th place finish at his PWRC debut in Greece.

The first Indian to contest a world rally event, Naren and co-driver Nicky Beech overcame a variety of problems with their brand-new Tomi Makinen-prepared Subaru WRX to move up the leaderboard throughout three days of tough conditions on the Greek roads. The 34-year-old Indian champ commented after the event, “It would have been an amazing debut had I made a cut into the top-10. But my car faced so many problems. On the second day we had trouble in the turbo and during the final day we had an oil leak from the engine”.

Of all the Subaru cars in the field, Naren came in second best. That should improve his stake with the manufacturer which only allowed him into the cockpit after its experts had evaluated his ability. “In our opinion, Naren has done excellent. First time with a car at this level, he has managed to keep going even when more experienced drivers have been making mistakes. The strategy for him was to experience the full rally and get as many kms as possible. His driving is very promising,” said Esko Rainer MD, Tommi Makinen Racing — the team that is backing Naren’s challenge.

Naren and Team Sidvin will now have two weeks to re-group and prepare their car for Rally Turkey, which starts on June 13.

Letz all wish Naren all the best in the near furture,
Go Naren Go
