Shan2nu said your car was almost stock and all I said was that it was running a stroker, port polish etc. I never used the word cheating or over bored.
Actually i didn't say that. What i said was that a 16.6 ET for a Baleno was slow bcoz Mclaren's Baleno had managed a low 16 sec run last year. I think you got confused since this years street stock rules don't allow extensive mods.

I only used the word "basic mods" wrt to wolf's car which had done a 16.5 run in Blore.

BTW, what are the rule changes between last year's pro stock and this year's street stock (which has lead to this confussion of what is right and what is wrong)?

This discussion has brought out quite a few skeletons out of the closet. When i started the argument, all i meant to say was, if a bombay baleno has taken 3rd place in the podium with 16.6 secs with just headers and filters, please appreciate it rather than making comments like 'that was slow, our Banglore balenos are .3 secs faster in pro stock.' please understand difference between categories.

It really depends how much is gasket is blown & if large amount of coolant makes it passage to combustion chamber then that particluar cyl may not ignite.
Seeing the scenario i think they had blew the head gasket when memo drove the car on track & when suddenly just before finish line the engine stalled & all light lit up & coolant started leaking in to Combustion chamber. and later on that day when i drove, i did feel something is wrong with some cyl.

BTW we are going off topic & discussing a car which run last year & not talking about cars which ran this year.

As far as my common sense allows me I have no friggin clue why street stock was introduced and why in the world was nitrous class seperated from prostock where TC & SC's are allowed!!! The best part, look at sheet number 10 in the rule book, you can use turbos/superchargers though with a multiplication factor IN STREET STOCK!!! WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???

I guess someone who doesnt know crap abt cars was given the responsibility of drafting down rules. Also, one more thing, engine swaps were allowed in prostock, LOLzzzzzzzz

For a national level event, the tech scrutiny is really pathetic from what some of you are describing. The speedrun is turning into more of a glamor event meant for big corporates to get inexpensive advertising mileage. Look at the big picture guys, nobody cares if people cheated in pro-stock or not, everyone was there to see the skyline and other big things.

What's important was everyone had fun, and everyone learnt something. This is only an annual event, not a championship, so let's all take it easy during the bench racing.

EVERYONE HAD FUN??? If everyone had fun ananth this 10page long discussion wouldnt happen MR Ananth.

By the way... Adman77 has sponsors etc like INDIAN OIL AND OVERDRIVE to make way for something similar to the SPEED RUN event.

I think we should get cracking and try setting up our own MONTHLY/QUATERly DRAG RUN EVENT.

What do you say.

Dan, we'll need a proffesional event management company to organize the event. I can just get the sponsors but permissions, organizing etc is very difficult.

Why dont we/you approach MAI? Even they were disgusted with Autocar. If you are serious, we can talk. The organizing thing will be take car eof them and im sure with the publicity gained over the years, there would be many happy takers to this event. What say mate?

Default Speedrun '08 - YetiPics® - Day 1, bikes

You are all bickering about this stupid Speedrun & I have begun to realise that nobody has out ANY decent photos of an event that is supposedly so dear to all of you.

So I am sparing some out of my post-evaluation report to JBL. Enjoy and tell me if you want more photos of people sweating in the sun, with passionate grease covered hands.

Crazy bunch of people! Tap-tap. They're just machines, you know.

I am not a decent accountant type guy, I am Viper. Understood? Cheers.

And this is my friend Gogster DeluX.

Anything karega to make it lighter and faster

From support team: Sam, we've removed one of your picture for obvious reason.

Nice pics, thanks for sharing.

I like that white civic in the "sign language" picture.

And those bikes are pretty cool, didn't know there was a scene like that in India.

ananthkamath If anyone had fun it must have been few in the VIP stand and as far as the participants were concerned then the next speedrun will se slightly reduced numbers as well as the number of spectators will also reduce.
What we just want is a good and well organised event not something where rules are made as peoples whims and fancy.

Well adman77 best of luck buddy. All in this forum will support you in organising an event.

Gogiji, what was the reason to put in all that stuff is a long story. To cut it short, there were some mistakes made that lead to such a build. Some errors made while purchasing the forged parts and these errors grew big by the time the build was done. Since we hardly had anytime to check the car as we were way behind schedule we just left to Bombay as it is.

Adman, like I mentioned earlier one cannot compare two cars with different levels of tune and specially when they ran a year apart and decide what mods did to each car. A lot of factors contribute to these times, some of which are not even car/engine related on a given day. I agree 16.6 for a almost stock baleno is very good timing, but suppose I had run my car this time around it might have clocked a late 15s I am guessing. But that we will never know. It would be me just mere speculating.

Yes, thats exactly what happened. In an effort to up the CR few things went wrong that ended up in having pistons above deck height.

The best bet would have been to keep stock rod & crank & made to order custom pistons with 11.0 c.r with piston not going above deck height & valve pockets to accomodate the valves.
Infact, car is now running on stock rods, crank and pistons. Only reason to put in the forged internals was to maybe go nitrous, but decided against it in the end and ended up with a high comp build for SR 07.

i drove it & after driving found car to be sluggish & test result showed a blown head gasket but i really don't know when the head gasket blew? when memo drove on track or while they were driving down to mumbai. i guess only the owner can tell.
IIRC, all problems started a day before the practice run. My radiator fan conked out, engine overheated, I didn't realize, and I think it was either veyron or ported (??) in the car when we went for a trial run and the car just shut off and refused to start back on. After cooling the car for 10mins we drove it back (refused to revv over 3k) to where the rest of the Bhpians were and figured that the fan was not working and the water temperature needle had hit way above the red mark (and few of them almost ended up having burnt faces when hot coolent from the radiator whizzed out). I think thats when the troubles started, that coupled with adulterated 97Oct fuel we filled finally gave way sometime during the practice run. But these are not excuses enough for not meeting the timings (high 15s) we had aimed at.

. I don't even understand why this topic of stroker kit, categories, protests came in the first place. If adman tried to say that a baleno with just air filter and headers clocked a 16.6 we must appreciate that and get on with it.
