I think memo's SX4 and Jays Zonda should have visited this drag . Congratulations to Vasu Anna. And Madhu's timing was incredible.

I understand the frustrations of the competitors, it always sucks to put in so much effort and feel cheated or at least let down. It happens here as well. Drag racing for many years was a old american muscle car scene, so when us guys started showing up with our "imports", it sounds like what you guys are going through(maybe not as bad, but these guys know racing..). So for you guys to be going through growing pains is only normal. I know it sucks, but this is the infancy of the sport in India and you guys are the pioneers.. this is how it goes.

I do however feel as though there needs to be some organized consulting going on with the organizers. There are ways to do things and processes for everything, they need some help with this it seems. I know others offered their help and I do as well. If there is a need/want to get these event run better, I'm game for doing whatever I can to help(I'd possibly make a trip to India just to do so).

However it went, I am very happy to see this event being held in Hyderabad. I'm hoping it sparks something in the scene there. I am let down by the fact that in the list of "tuners" by city, HYD has none, but not sure if there is a large enough market there YET to justify a full scale speed shop.. I'm watching and waiting for the market to ripen.

Seeing all this I'm wondering if building a dedicated 1/4 track would have a market there? Because I have roots/ties with HYD, I'd love to see something built on the outskirts of the city somewhere, maybe in the direction of one of the other large cities(toward Bangalore maybe?). Anyways, I ran this idea(including road course) by family the last time I was there and there was actually some interest in it.. Is this a reasonable idea or a waste of time/$ currently?

You could study the Dubai Autodrome business model to understand if something like this is workeable in India.

Good point. No point comparing a track focused car driven by a kid to a drag spec modded Supra Turbo driven by a seasoned drag guy. But then Junta will be Junta.

That's the infamous B16 engine from the CRX TypeR version, one that both Viper and Jitu have transplanted into their OHCs.

Bone stock vtec does 0-100 in 9.XX seconds (according to some mags or 10.xx maybe); Does it takes 11 additional seconds for the vtec to do an extra 40 kmph?? and 12 more to do 140-160? Are you sure..
Yup, im pretty sure about it.

A stock VTEC does the 1/4 mile in about 17secs@around130kmph. So if it can take 7 secs to go from 100-130, 100-140 in 11 secs sounds like a realistic figure.

Moreover the car was tested by some magazine.

I had even taken a vid of my car's acceleration when it was completely stock. The speedo figures are very close to what the mags achieved.

PS : Theres a very good chance a stock VTEC at sea level might be a bit quicker.

Brand new car. Not yet run in.

No infrastructure, boss.

A lot of the winners are running .5xx to .7xx. That's pretty good considering it's an NHRA Sportsman tree, where .5 is perfect and anything below .5 seconds is a jumpstart.

Too expensive. An acre of land is worth more in HYD and BLR than most American cities.

Why do you think so. Coz a stock VTEC does take around 17 secs to hit 130kmph.

Even when Overdrive tested the car they got 0-100 in 9.9secs (which is a pretty good figure) and clocked 16.9secs to the 1/4 mile.

When Ritesh ran in the Blore SR with stage 1 mods and a lightened car, he only managed 16.5secs. So 16.9-17secs isn't bad for a stock car (with stock S322 tyres).

It's doing about 7 Sec.

P.s : how much NOS was injected for the run?
Yes, it was a perfect drive and it was perfect possible combination of all.

We can expect these things in coming years.

Because Mohnish managed to do a 16.9 or 17.0 in his stock Baleno, with the wrong suspension and tyre setup, and full load except for his rear seats, which is about 10-15 kgs.

Folks, I have ZERO knowledge of drag racing and I will be honest enough to say that I learnt about 'burnouts' from this thread only.

So, with this background, can someone help me understand what does 'missed some gears..' mean in drag racing world and the importance of it?

I come from a different world where the only thing one can miss is 4-H/L.

Cheers,

Imagine you hit your revlimit -- let's say 6500 rpm. Now the crucial thing is to quickly shift gears without losing too many revs and too much time. In this hurry to quickly shift gears, you might miss the shift to 2nd from 1st, and misshift -- either into 3rd, or the gear may not slot properly. This can waste like .5 seconds, which is an eternity in drag racing.

Was this in Bbay by any chance? Cos i'v mentioned in my post that a stock vtec would put in quicker times at sea level.

For every 1000ft elevation, an NA engine loses about 3% of it's power.

So a 106bhp car in Blore will be producing around 95-96bhp. This is why when you drove Mclaren's modified Baleno during the Blore SR, you were clocking around 16.9-17secs (which Monish was able to match with his bone stock car at sea level).

Erm, no, this was BLR. I did 16.6 in the practice run where Wolf beat me by less than half a car length. Then I did 16.9 in the final run. Memo did 16.9 in the same race just after my run. Then his car got totalled so he drove Mcl's car in Mumbai.
