I meant the same but I guess didn't come out properly.

But didn't know the real reason which you have so mentioned. Thanks for that.

@ Rishi - i guess you were running ES100s or GSD3s in your GTX. normal tyres with a higher profile would have been better i guess.

But awsome pics rishi ) - superb GTX.

Default Raid though our lenses

Rally and that too in the Himalayas, has been synonymous to the ultimate adventure, a dream for me since childhood. Tired to catch everything about it on TV since doordarshan days. Dreamt of participating in the Raid ever since its beginning and now after 11 long years was finally able to realize my childhood dream!!

Here goes the pictorial guys!!

At the HMA office, Motoworld Shimla. We were among the first ones to reach there on 2nd. Got the papers checked and got the Underbody done.

Getting our Scrutiny done on the 5th October.

All set and done!

Raiders at the Holiday Home Shimla

Suresh Rana all set for the flagoff at the cerimonial Flagoff on 6th. Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal Flagged us off. Only to return to the parking. Well that's what cerimonial flag offs are all about.

Here goes Sunny Sidhu.

Hotel Peteroff, where the cerimony was held.

And finally, the D day! Lined up for the flagoff at Peteroff. Parc Ferme was at 5 am. Visible in the picture are Saurabh, my Raidmate and Rishi.
Raid de Himalaya 2009-dscf7675.jpg

The first 10 or so Kms were kind of exciting and boring. 38 Kms/h on good tarmac that is. But then it got really exciting. Speed was increased as we went on gravel. Here goes the video.

After a round of excitement, a round of horror!
Raid de Himalaya 2009-dscf7677.jpg

Boredom returned for some part of it. We even took the nature's call here, timed with stopwatches though.
Raid de Himalaya 2009-dscf7678.jpg

And then the first taste of the Raid hit us. Something like this.

Reached Jalori Jot. 9 Kms in first gear.
Raid de Himalaya 2009-dscf7682.jpg

The altitude at Jalore.
Raid de Himalaya 2009-dscf7684.jpg

After this, the descent was so bad, I could not even click pictures. We were real short on time as we passed a number of populated areas, from here till Manali, we forgot we were running the Adventure Trial.

To be continued....

PS: Please bear the quality of pictures as 99.99% are shot while moving.

This teaser isnt enough mate. We want the full story!! Please continue posting bit by bit. You'll never post if you try to write a complete log and then post. I'm sure the experience is just too much to be penned in words.

The raid was awesome. Can't say much from the competitors point of view but for us being officials we had a tough time. Specially being in the Adventure Trial officials. We had to wait up for each car to pass the TC and if required to even salvage them out of places.

@ Vinay.

I could relate to your face after looking at your competition number. How was Rungdum to you??

i was going through the pics on picasa - when your were running the spare tyre (ES100) on the front LHS - the mount was wrong. Then again i saw that the front RHS tyre was facing the wrong direction (May be you swapped it with the LHS rear tyre) - didn't it affect the handling to some extent?

how come it has ths 1.6 sports badge?

But i had a great time going through the entire set of pics and i have just one word for it AWESOME

I had to use the spare with wrong direction due to emergency...the best part was, it performed better with wrong mount

Sport badge is additional from Fiat accessory shop.

Thanks for your kind words, I wish I had more time to click more pictures, I mostly clicked pictures before the flag off or after and during the free runs.

So - both the front tyres were mounted in the wrong direction for better performance. i usually see that pattern in the bikes (MRF Zappers - Pulsars, ZMA...)
