Best spots to have a look at action during Desert Storm 2010:

Unlike circuit racing or other arena sports the rally presents a bit of challenge for spectators as well. But it is well worth the effort to see top Indian drivers zoom past you with incredible precision and control. Listing of best spots to catch the rally action:

Stage 1 - Near Jaipur
  • Manoharpura Bridge : February 15/0100hrs : Just couple of kilometres after the Toll Plaza at Manoharpura on NH8 is a river bridge. The rally passes under this bridge and offers a spectacular high point to see the rally vehicle approach from east and head west. You can also climb down to the river bed but keep clear of the track as crews go past at full clip through churning sand.
  • Bishangarh Causeway : February 15/0100hrs : From Manoharpura leave NH8 towards west. Bishangarh is about 5 kms away and the rally cuts across the Manoharpura-Samod road at this cause way and then head in to water splash area about two kilometres away. No vehicle allowed inside the track area.
Stage 2 & 3 - Near Bikaner
  • Pundrasar : February 15/0930hrs : This town is about 15 kilometres away from Sheruna, stage 2 start. You can watch the crews struggle up sand dune and then cross the road and head off to tackle more dunes.
  • Gosainsar-Napasar road : February15/1200hrs : Watch the cars going full clip through sandy swells and come to a screeching halt at this S&G location. And then again gun in to more sandy tracks heading west.
Stage 4 - Near Bikaner
  • Choti Naal : February16/0800hrs : Near the Bikaner airforce station. The rally passes from east to west near this village bfore looping southwards a bit further on. You can park your vehicle on the tarmac near compulsory stop and walk in either direction along the track to see rally action.
  • Gajner End : February 16/0830hrs : About three kilometres on the Barsingsar road. The cars come to halt at the end of dune country.
Stage 5 - Near Pokharan
  • Pokharan : February 16/1200hrs : Just outside on the Jodhpur highway the rally crosses the national highway with a compulsory stop and go. The lake bed on left and sand flats on right offer excellent view and picture opportunity.
  • Meghlaon Ki Bast : February 16/1230hrs : The rally comes past the lake bed and then takes the sandy country around this hamlet.
  • Rampura End : February 16/1300hrs : Situated on the Pokhara-Sankhra road about 25 kilometres from Pokharan. The crews end the stage with a final run over hard packed gravel. Perfect sport to see power slides while crews try to race to wards the end.
Stage 6 - Near Jaisalmer
  • Aakal Baragaon Road : February 17/0700hrs : Reach before the cars are started off from Aakal on what is locally known as GREF bye pass of Jaisalmer. A few kilometres away the rally takes a sharp right on a cross road and abruptly change direction from east to south.
  • Rasla Mandir : February 17/0730hrs : Reach via Devikot. This temple just before Rasla is location for a mid way S&G for the rally. Crews are travelling south parallel to the NH15. The lake bed on north and sandy flat on south offer great spectating opportunities.
Stage 7 - Near Bhuj
  • No spectating except at the Camp end. February17/1930hrs
Stage 8 - Near Mandvi
  • Chachi Lighthouse : February 18/0800hrs : Park near the light house and walk on to beach. Watch the cars take a start and then climb across the sand bluff before heading north along the beach.
  • Pingleshwar Mandir : February 18/0830hrs : Park at the end of tarmac and walk up to beach. See the crews approaching at full clip with amazing blue sea lapping at their tyre's
Stage 9 - Near Bhuj
  • Haji Peer : February 18/1200hrs : Park your car at the start and walk in to the section. Watch extreme acceleration and crews zooming off towards far horizon.
  • Dhinodhar : February 18/1200hrs : Watch from top of extinct volcano (approach from Viraani on the Camp-Nakhatrana road). The cars would appear as ants as they cross the vast expanse of Rann of Kutch at the foot of this hill dominating the area.
  • Road Cross near Camp: February 18/1230hrs : Just a few kilometres north of the camp. Watch the crews come to screeching halt at the compulsory stop before disappearing in to never ending Rann.
Stage 10 & 11 - No spectating, at locations other than starts and ends, in interest of safety. No one should enter Little Rann of Kutch unescorted. February 19/0330hrs & February 19/0630hrs

Leg 1B:
Some endurance test this. specially for bikers who seem to be in a daze. Mechanical failures in cars show inadequate preparedness?

SS02/SS03 Drop outs:
Xtreme #07 16 17 21 26 27 33 39 43 - Total finishers: 24
Ndure #102 & 122 - Total finishers: 8

Super Rally Request Accepted for #16 21 27 56 108 and they will be taking restart also for Leg2

No accidents. Mechanical breakdowns and navigational errors. All crews were transported out. Tracking devices were a great help in exactly triangulating locations.
