Well done indeed.

They've managed to retain the essential 'luxobarge-ness' of the S-class and blend in some very modern design cues. The new shape is a significant improvement over the old one - the lines flow well, but they still retain that quintessentially understated Teutonic quality that has been the hallmark of the S-class over the decades.

I wasn't a fan of the old one - but this one looks stunning. Every car in the world should have a hot-stone rolling massage.

These cars aren't supposed to be very sharp looking given their clientele but I do agree the old one looked very plain Jane to be called their flagship. Very undeserving of the S class name it was. Looks I.e. but in terms of features etc. it was an ace as has been the case for each generation of the S class.
MB seems to have gotten it right this time. Although I'm unsure if its target demo will like its modern look and feel. Works for me but I'm still young. These cars are usually bought by Middle Aged people and tastes change as one gets older. I remember how into big music systems, alloy wheela and stupid body kits I used to be when I was in my teens, today not so much.

In the mean time the S Class coupe is spied at the Nürburgring;

Looks very stylish atleast in the camouflage, especially the rear 3/4 (one can mistake it for an Aston )

Expected launch : Early 2014

The S-Class coupe would be replacing the current generation CL-Class.

It seems Mercedes has 'accidentally' revealed the 2014 S63 AMG

I looked at the pic of the S-class without blinking. What a sight to behold! That magic control is well part magic, part super tech. The Beemer 7 series v/s Merc S-class has always been an interesting fight. They have taken to car tech to surreal levels!
And it has entered into production too:

Seems odd that after the big Benz has been revealed it still needs to be camouflaged while undergoing pre-launch final testing.

On the way back home after a fine track-weekend, I came up on this fella with manufacturer plates:

And it looked like an SWB version which won't even be sold in the States.

The first drive report is out by Car and Driver:

They have retained that ugly 2-spoke steering wheel. Other than that, I think the new S is taking competition to next level.

S500 Special Edition Around November / December, price before Budget was going to be about 1.5, But with our Duty Hike + Rupee expect it to go higher but will be close to 2 On road.

Initially only CBU, will get other models by Q2 2014.

But anyone who wants a W222 wait till end of 2014 a lot of features etc. are yet to be announced by Mercedes and it will happen with the launch of the Coupe & the other models based on the S.

Default S63 AMG Revealed!

Mercedes has revealed the new S63 AMG !

Quote:
In long wheelbase guise, as sold in the UK, the new rear-wheel drive S63 AMG is said to weigh 1995kg – 100kg less than its predecessor, despite a moderate increase in dimensions and greater level of standard equipment. Significantly, Mercedes-Benz claims the four-wheel drive S63 AMG hits the scales at the very same figure of 1995kg, owing in part to a more straightforward suspension design.

Power comes from a reworked version of AMG’s twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre V8 engine that in a departure to recent AMG practice is planned to be offered in just a single state of tune. It develops an added 14bhp over the old S63 AMG with performance package at 577bhp, providing the new car with a power-to-weight ratio of 289bhp per tonne. Torque matches that of proceeding model’s performance package option with a sturdy 663lb ft developed on band of revs between 2250 and 3750rpm.

The direct-injection petrol unit already meets stringent EU6 emission regulations, with combined fuel consumption of 28mpg and average CO2 emissions of 237g/km in the rear-wheel-drive long wheelbase model destined for the UK. The added reserves continued to be channelled through AMG’s seven-speed MCT (multi clutch transmission) with three driving modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual – the former of which brings an automatic stop/start function for added fuel savings.

Despite the various weight-saving measures and added power, Mercedes-Benz’s official performance claims for the new rear-wheel-drive S63 AMG put its 0-62mph acceleration at the same level as its predecessor at 4.4sec, while top speed remains limited to 155mph in standard guise and 186mph in combination with an optional driver’s package.

Following moves with other recent new AMG models, a new four-wheel-drive S63 AMG 4Matic model will join the line-up in selected left-hand-drive markets. However, Mercedes-Benz’s continued inability to provide right-hand-drive compatibility with its four-wheel drive system in many models means it will not be sold in the UK or the remaining 83 right-hand-drive markets worldwide. With added off-the-line traction, the S63 AMG 4Matic is claimed to storm to 62mph from standstill in just 4.0sec – an improvement of 0.5sec on the old model.
