This may well be a strategy what Bugatti follows to get new models in short span of time to keep the competition / customers / News alive for their company. The product is very niche which they are selling and the takers for this vehicle are selective and not much in the market.

So for those handful of people this strategy may well work in selling new models.

While 2.5 is unreal in its own right (the fastest bike in the world BMW s1000rr with a much much MUCH higher power:weight obviously is still 2.5 to the ton ..NO FASTER)
Traction is a major player here, or rather, the lack of traction.

Also, similar to how the Veyron had to make xxx hp more just to increase its top speed by a few km/h - the same applies for the amount of weight that it would need to shed in order to make a 0.1 second shift in its acceleration run.

The BMW S1000RR does have an enormous power-to-weight advantage, but it only has 1 driven wheel, vs the veyron's 4. Once again, traction!

You know what i'd like to see? A Veyron on slicks...

Sadly there are no slicks available in the Veyron's sizes and the tyres that it currently uses are anyways custom made for it.

This reminds me of James May's top speed run. "At top speed the tyres will only last 20 minutes, but you will run out of fuel in 12". LOL.
