BMW to unveil two new SUVs in 2014.

New SUV offerings from BMW to include X4 and second-generation X6.

Quote:
BMW will take the wraps off two new SUVs this year, followed by two more high-performance SUVs from its in-house tuning arm, the M division. The first one will be the production version of the new BMW X4 SUV which will be officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show in April 2014. The new BMW X4 SUV is to the X3 what the X6 is to the X5 SUV - a more stylish derivative with a coupé-like sloping roof and, subsequently, less practicality.

Next in line is the second-generation X6 SUV, which will debut at the Moscow motor show in August 2014.

A full-blown BMW X6 M version will be launched at the end of the year, alongside a new X5 M, with more aggressive and sharper styling. They will both use the twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine of the current X5 M and X6 M, but with power and torque increased from the current 547bhp and 69.4kgm. Economy and emissions will also be improved.

Carbuyer UK's review of the X4!
The car does not really have the street presence, and is not high on practicality (as expected from a X coupe).
The standard X3 looks much better IMO.

BMW X4 Overview

The highly awaited, all-new model - the BMW X4 was finally revealed online via a set of detailed images earlier in 2014 and then, a month later the model got to take its first public bow at the 2014 New York Motor Show. The new BMW X4 is essentially the coupe version of the X3 SUV and is being termed as a SAV or Sports Activity Vehicle - as BMW likes to call it. The model follows the footsteps of its bigger brother BMW X6 and has officially laid the foundation for BMW for a whole new niche segment.
BMW X4 Platform

The BMW X4 rides on the same platform as the X3 and measures 14mm longer and 36mm lower to the ground than the X3. At the front, the X4 features larger air intakes and new fog lamps. The headlamps and the fog lamps can be had in either conventional build and projector set up or in a full LEDs. At the back, the X4 features taillights and the C-pillar that have been taken from the new 4-Series Gran Coupe. The most notable feature on the X4 however, is its coupe-like roofline, which runs from the front seats and down to the tail lamps.
BMW X4 Interior

Inside, the X4 features all the standard controls and switchgear that one would expect to see in a BMW. The centre console has been finished in high-gloss black and aluminium trim strips, while the cabin follows the two-tone interior looks. The centre console sports standard BMW features such as the infotainment system, audio controls, the large LCD screen and climate control.
BMW X4 Engine Specifications

BMW India is expected to introduce the X4 in India with a number of engine and powertrain options. The range of diesel engines could include a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that is rated at 187PS and 380Nm of peak torque and a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, turbocharged unit that is rated at 262PS and a massive 560Nm of peak torque.

The petrol variants of the BMW X4 could get the turbocharged, 4-cylinder xDrive28i that is able to produce 248PS of max power, while the 4-cylinder xDrive35i is rated at 310PS of max power. An entry level xDrive20i could also be offered by BMW India, which is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that is able to produce 189PS of max power and is achieves the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 8.1 seconds.

The BMW X4 will be positioned between the BMW X3 and the larger X4 SUV and could be launched in the country early next year. The model will be brought into the country via the CBU route and is expected to bear.

Slightly OT: Why is it that almost all BMWs have similar looking dashboard designs/layout? I can hardly differentiate one from the other, may be a few knobs. Slowly I see the same problem with the headlamp+grille combo and even the taillight design (the same shell design with different LED patterns). This design theme being same across the whole sedan and SUV range, makes the whole design boring and tiring to look at. Please correct me if I am missing out anything.

Those rear brake light LED's will look menacing in the dark. The roof slopes down so much, seems like it will be hard for a 6-footer to sit in the back.

Those pictures above are not of the production X4, and the interior pic is of the previous X6. Also I haven't heard anything about an India launch till date.

Spyshots have surfaced online showing the new-generation BMW X4.

Quote:
Two things immediately catch the eye. The first is the fact that the roofline of the X4 has been thoroughly redesigned and appears much lower and most Fastback-like.

The second are the taillights. They are more different than we had ever imagined and very thin, not unlike the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Porsche Macan in terms of overall dimensions. To say they transform the entire look of the SUV would be an understatement.
