The 2012 Ford Fusion (Mondeo elsewhere) is spotted in camouflage on Detroit road. Here is the link to the MSN report:

Its a fantastic looking car.Specially in white.Yes it does look like the Aston Martin. But hey who's complaining.Ford took the best part away before giving up Aston Martin.
It does look at a wannabe Aston Marting but i personally love the looks. On viewing the car in side profile it does look sporty and also has a coupe like appearance. The neatly integrated tailpipes ooz out it style and classiness. The contoured Bonnet looks amazing and would really look good from behind the wheel.Hope this car comes to India soon.
Shod it with some sweet looking alloys and this one will be a real headturner.
Might even give competition in looks to the Rapide.

Woah, i just saw this. What a nice looking car. Who wouldn't mind a ford that looks like an aston martin and yet costs like a ford should. Am i right to say that this is a competitor to the superbs, accords and camry's?

And they will bring a bigger ecoboost engine for this as well. Sweet.

The new design is just superb! And yea, like others said, this is going to be poor man's (well not exactly a poor man's cause of the pricing) Austin Martin.

Read somewhere that this is going to be pitted against Accord and Camry or even 3ers from BMW since it would be priced between 20 - 25 lakh range.

Whatever it is, we are going to benefit from all these brand wars at the end of the day!!

Best,
r-six

Default New Mondeo to be powered by EcoBoost engine

2013 Ford Mondeo / Fusion :: Now to be powered by award winning 1.0 EcoBoost engine!-newfordmondeo.jpg

High Points:
  • The new Ford Mondeo / Fusion was revealed to the public at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year.
  • Expect it to be powered by the new 1.0 liter EcoBoost motor that churns out 123 horsepower (170 NM of Torque - 200 NM in 'over-boost' mode). This engine won the 2012 “International Engine of the Year” award.
  • The earlier base-motor was a naturally aspirated 118 horsepower 1.6 liter unit. The new 1.0 EcoBoost unit should provide similar levels of performance while ensuring that the emissions are much lower.
  • This development will be revealed to the public this month, at the Paris Auto Show.

Looks simply gorgeous. Poor Man's Rapide Just wish that Ford launches this in India at a price tag of anything under 20-22L with engine options such as the 1.0 EcoBoost and the 1.5 or 2.0 TDCi. Will surely make the life a lot tougher for the Cruze/Jetta/Laura etc. & Even the Camry/Accord etc for that matter.

The 1.0l ecoboost should be launched at a later stage or as an option for those very very fuel conscious minded people in the 15 to 20 lakh bracket. The minimum should be the 1.6 ecoboost or the 2.0L NA engine for the small number of petrol heads and the 2L/2.2L TDCi for the rest(read majority).I guess ford should launch this somewhere next year, so it should really set the segment on fire if launched at a respectable price.

To produce 123 HP and 170+NM of torque doesnt this engine require premium fuel?? This engine is produced in two states of tune, a 99Hp and a 120 to 125 HP one,is premium fuel needed to reach those figures(125hp,170NM...) or not?

Thanks

Unfortunately, fuel is a constraint. Here in India, rarely does one come across a bunk that provides premium high-octane fuel. But even that isn't the real issue.

Thing is, Ford may re-consider bringing the EcoBoost engine. Why? There are a few reasons for this:

- Cost to build / assemble this engine may be very high.

- Petrol engines aren't in demand anymore. Every manufacture has gone the diesel route. Even Honda is contemplating a diesel engine for their volume product, the Brio.

So the costs involved in making these engines may be too high and the demand for them may not justify their introduction into the market. Also, as you'd said, these engines require to be run on high-octane and quality fuel.

So we may not see the EcoBoost making an entry anytime soon. At least, that's what I believe.

I may be wrong though.

From the various reports, it looks like they are committed to bring in the 1.0 EcoBoost with the EcoSport. The cost factor may come down once this become a mass market engine (they are considering this as the successor for the current 1.6 petrol). And apparently tests are now happening on a 177bhp version of the 1.0.

Anyway, looks like lean heart is the future for big cars - 1.4L Passat, 1.0 Mondeo etc. interesting to see how the Asian giants respond to this (Honda, Toyota etc.)

Ford India's facility will be exporting engines to Europe & Thailand markets.

No doubt...

http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/engine/

The monster ecoboost engines are recommended to use unleaded fuel! It should work just well with the normal fuel.

To quote from service manual of the same from F150Forum:

Quote:
Your vehicle is designed to run on regular fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher. For best overall performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended. The performance gained by using premium fuel will be most noticeable in hot weather or in severe duty applications such as towing a trailer.

Frankly, the Mondeo that was sold in India had its own character/aura, but this one seems to be something that has come out of Aston Martin's shadow. Its almost as if the Mondeo is a slave to the Aston, just trying to be like the master.

But I concur that if Ford launches it with a 2.0 liter TDCi unit & prices it somewhere around 20-22 lacs (assuming it would compete against the likes of the Accord, Passat & Superb), then it would really make life tough for the competition.
