Post Potential disruption to global car production

I found this interesting piece about a factory fire in germany that has the potential to disrupt global automobile supply chains. Also its a great example of small events having disproportionately large effects due to globalisation.
I'm not sure what impact it will have in India.

BBC News - Fire in small German town could curb world car production
When a fire in the small town of Marl in the west of Germany closed down an obscure chemical plant on 31 March, it barely made headlines.
Two people died and that was a personal tragedy for their families and friends, but the shock waves did not resonate far beyond.

Except, it turns out, to the other side of the Atlantic - in Detroit, Michigan.

So tight is the global car industry's supply chain that one break in a small link threatens the lot.
About three weeks after the fire, executives from the world's biggest auto-makers and their suppliers have met with furrowed brows to take stock of the implications of the fire.
And they are serious.
Theres some more info here:

An explosion at a manufacturing plant in Germany is expected to cause a plastic resin shortage that could disrupt U.S. auto production, according to an IHS Automotive report released Tuesday morning.
Auto industry leaders hosted a summit Tuesday in Southfield, Mich., to discuss the shortages of a component called CDT. That chemical is a key component in a nylon resin called PA-12 or Nylon-12, which is used to make a specialized plastic. The plastic is used in auto fuel lines and brake lines.

Interesting news, but I think the suppliers would have a bit of stock available. Also, this report seems to be focused on North American markets. Not sure where the Indian industry sources these components from. We'll just have to wait and see.

Looks like the Automotive Industry is not having a good decade, globally.
