The transition of Accord in 2008 was remarkable with the new design looking much better than the previous one. This one looks like an evolutionary change. I found the front matching the new Passat. Hope they provide adequate features inside to keep it alive in the premium segment.

Anyway, this car looks more rounded than squared in terms of styling.

The new Accord is likely to come with a CVT (which is never good news) to meet more stringent fuel economy targets, so some gains and some losses. For India, they need to shoehorn a diesel into this and the CR-V to have any economic sense for buyers. I have a feeling that the v-6 may go away totally in this iteration of the Accord to be replaced by a turbo direct injected 4 cylinder.
You've pretty much stated what I wanted to. No diesel = FAIL. They've already lost way too much ground to their rivals thanks to a combination of arrogance and short-sightedness across all models (the Jazz, the City, the CRV, the Civic and the Accord). I'm not seeing Brios burning up the sales charts either.
Even if they bring in the diesel in this thing, I think they've lost too much cache to reclaim the quasi-monopolistic position they used to have at the top of the heap of cars Indians aspired to own.

Are you referring to the Hofmeister Kink??? Because other than the kink (which is something that's been ripped off by almost every car manufacturer for the last sixty years after it first showed up on the BMW 1500 in 1961) there's no similarity between the E46 3-series and the 2012 Accord.

Please see the A-line ( The line running over the car, from headlight to taillight, tracing the car's silhouette) , Its not the C-Pillar alone that am talking about. With both this in place, side profile is nearly the same. To my eyes , it is. Probably am missing something, What else is there in the side profile other than side profile view of Belt line / Headlight / Tail light ?

The crease / sash running under the waistline's also a fairly common design element today. That, coupled with the Hofmeister kink are supposed to give sedans a sporty look when looked at in a side-profile. Most cars today have one or more of these design elements.

The A-Line and the Hofmeister -Kink if used together would make the profile too similar.
Please see the A-Line of 2011 Verna and that of Pre 2012 3-Series ? Is it the same ? Its not.
If am talking about 2012 Verna A-line is ascending from front to back whereas the gradient is not the same in a previous generation Verna.

To start fresh, how do we differentiate the side profile of a car ?

1.A / B / C Pillar.
+ The amount of metal in the side view on A/B/C Pillars.

2.A-Line
+ 'A-line' whether ascending or descending from either end.
+ 'A-line' whether continous or broken.
+ Door handle whether on A-line or below A line

We can still differentiate more but these form the most influential part of side profile view.

All this factors are literally the same on both the cars (2012 Accord and Prev Gen 3-Series ) . Even the end of A-Line at either fenders is nearly at the same position. The position of the A-line. The position of the door handle. The gradient of A-line. The G.C . The % distribution of Glass and Metal on the door. The angle at which A/C Pillar is meeting the boot and front-hood line. Its nearly the same.

Still if its not the same, I may be wrong. Cheers

The rear looks exactly like the Hyundai Genesis sedan, how exactly did Honda think they can get away with this!

And the Genesis sedan has been in the market since a good number of years!

2013 Accord dropped from European lineup.

Quote:
The critically acclaimed Accord, also known as our Acura TSX, has become a victim of Europe’s decimated car market, and mid-size sedans have been hit particularly hard. The Accord was never a big player in Europe, despite being praised to high heaven by the motoring press. Just-Auto is reporting that

for now, the emphasis is on rebuilding sales, led by the firm’s new 1.6-litre ‘i-DTEC’ four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This is now being fitted to the Civic and will be added to the new CR-V from the first quarter of 2013.

Agree, a distant resemblance to the 6th gen front - also I think the thinner pillars and the overall 'airiness'/'glass area' of the design aid in driving this perception.

Also, looks like Honda's usual packaging voodoo tricks continue - shortened, but more legroom, more trunk volume, flat cargo floor...

Yeah, interestingly if you watch some of the videos the Honda folks talk about a concept of machine less man more. This is exact concept they used in their ads when they launched the City in India

Also the mirrors seem to have evolved from the ones on the 7th generation.

In test conditions in the US/EU am sure this fuel efficiency would be achieved. We in India should be happy if we get 8kmpl!

Honda definitely needs design direction. All their cars have lost the design flair. The OLD NHC and the current gen CIVIC and 2005 Accord are such good looking cars.

The current designs are just paint shop stuff. Hyundai found fluidic design.

It is time HONDA found something.
