Please note all views are speculative, no announcements yet made on the India launch.
All views indicate for sure the launch in India will be in 2013!

Cheers!

I think we may get the 140bhp version with the Octavia. If so, thr Jetta will also certainly get the upgraded version of the engine.

Makes sense also. Its just a re tuned version of the same engine block. With the 160bhp, you also get supercharging. So, it may never make it here. Fuel quality is another issue. I don't think the 160bhp version runs 91 Octane.

The supercharged version of the 1.4 TSI most certainly won't make it to India so soon. It is supposedly expensive to make and reliability is not so great.

Actually the new Octavia does get the 1.8 TSI as an option in other parts of Europe barring the UK. The new 1.8 TSI motor now produces 177 hp and a peak torque of 250 nm over an even wider range of 1250 - 5000 rpm.

Interestingly the new Octavia 1.8 TSI also gets a more sophisticted multi link rear suspension whereas the other options get a torsion beam set up.

Quoting from a review done by EVO

"Engines are 1.6 or 2-litre turbodiesels, which will dominate the UK market, and turbo petrols of 1.2 and 1.4 litres. And, as headlined above, a 1.8-litre, 177bhp petrol engine which is denied to UK buyers but is without reservation the pick of the bunch. This engine is matched to sophisticated multi-link rear suspension, while all the others make do with a torsion beam.

The 1.8 TSI is the best-driving Octavia partly because it has the most power, delivered with smooth urgency and a quick throttle response, but mainly because it has the best mix of crisp, natural steering, an absorbent ride and tidy, precise handling. That's the combination of accurate rear suspension and a relatively lightweight engine at work, making this Octavia a grippy, deft device to fling through bends.

By comparison the torsion-beam cars feel looser around the straight-ahead and have a more fidgety ride. The effortlessly torquey, 148bhp 2.0 TDI suffers through its nose-heaviness, while the smaller-engined duo we sampled 1.4 TSI with 138bhp and 1.6 TDI with 103bhp are lighter on their feet but still lack the 1.8's focused, proportionally-responding feel
"

News on the Octavia for India seem emerge!

The petrol engines for the 2013 Octavia sold in India could be the 1.4 Liter 140 Bhp TSI turbo petrol motor found on the current Jetta sedan. The other turbo petrol engine is anticipated to be the 1.8 Liter TSI motor from the EA888 series, with power upped to 175 Bhp. The 1.8 TSI petrol engine could get the 7 speed DSG dual clutch automatic as an option given the fact that Skoda India has begun offering this gearbox on the current Laura.
The 2013 Octavia is expected to continue with two turbo diesel engine options: A 2 Liter TDI engine outputting 120 Bhp and the same engine in a higher state of tune with 150 Bhp.

Octavia and Laura will stay together in the market. so it's obvious that Octavia will get de-tuned engines.
Octavia will get 1.4 TSI with 100 - 106 bhp tune and 1.8 TFSI with tune of ~130 bhp.

Really? So Skoda would sell a brand new model at a lower level than a 6 year old one? That seems absurd.

I don't think the Laura is going to be here after the Octavia is launched, and it is shown by Skodas last minute effort to clear Laura stocks by adding more features.

just see the state of tune for engines of New Octavia and it immediately makes sense that higher tuned engines will stay in separate product.

I've seen the state of tune of the engines on the Octavia 3, and I think you are reading them in kw instead of bhp.

here is corrected info:

Octavia will get 1.4 TSI with 100 - 106 kW tune and 1.8 TFSI with tune of ~130 kW.

yes, Laura will be discontinued after New Octavia launch.

This sounds right. So new Octavia will get 1.4TSI with 140bhp. This is strange considering the Jetta has 122 horses only.

agree that it is strange but info is absolutely correct. it will be priced lil less than Jetta following their brand positioning strategy in general.

Hey ! Why does one need the TFSI technology to make a 1.8L Gasoline engine produce 130 bhp? The Civic and the Corolla without a turbo charger are producing 130+ bhps
I don't think there is space for the co-existance of both the Laura and the Octavia. If they have to, then Laura is the one which has to take these engines and step down, handing the torch over to the Octavia to lead!
Hope Skoda does not phase out the 1.8 TSFI engine before I save up enough cash to finally buy one

The 1.4 TSI with 140bhp seems to be the new base offering for this engine (the recent MK7 Golf also get that). Probably soon they'll standardize that to the existing models like Jetta.
