It looks absolutely gorgeous. I hate the curled up (swept back) headlights in any car (current Laura, Current C class etc). Much prefer the clean classy look of the straigh slat headlights. The rear of the current laura is pretty boring too but somehow the new one, even though quite similar to the current one has added that extra zing to the rear.

Can't wait to see it arrive on Indian shores. Just hope it remains within the current Laurá's price range. The car is already pretty expensive. IMO there's not much room for it to get any pricier.

The car looks great - clinical and neat design like the previous two generations of the Octavia- loving the tail lamps and the LED running lamps - good job Skoda!

I think it would be great if Skoda offers the 1.6 TDI CR alongside the 2.0 TDI CR - is this the same 1.6 TDI engine found in the Rapid and the Vento? I read in an article somewhere (ACI?) that the 1.6 in the Vento/Rapid is currently imported from South Africa and VW is planning on producing them here to bring the costs down. If they do, this could benefit the Octavia.

And on this Octavia being positioned B/w the Laura and the Superb- I hope this is not the case and the Octavia replaces the entire Laura model range, as the Laura itself is the Octavia Mk2 and the 2013 Octavia is the Mk3- but if it is indeed launched alongside the laura - I wouldn't be surprised as the Octavia and the Laura co-existed here (and in Europe as well - when our Laura was launched as the 'New Octavia' there, the Mk1 Octavia was sold as 'Octavia Tour'.

Here's what I'm hoping the Variants will be like:

1.6 TDI CR Ambition in MT / 6-DSG - the diesel base model with the 1.6 tdi engine can turn out be a no-nonsense car with decent power (i think it makes the same power/torque as the original 1.9 PD), and all the necessities should be covered - rear park assist/MP3 player/electric mirrors etc - if they bring in the DSG in the 1.6 - it can be a efficient and fun-to-drive automatic diesel at an attractive price point) - ex showroom price of the manual should be 13.5-14-ish and DSG 14.5-ish

2.0 TDI CR [Elegance/L&K/VRS] MT / 6-DSG - The 2.0 TDI should form the part of the upper range of the variants - Elegance trim should offer all the luxury trappings - Leather seats with electric adjust and memory/front and rear park sensors/Maxidot display/rain sensing wipers/HID autolevelling projectors etc etc - making this a VFM buy

L&K should be bonkers with all the class leading features they have mentioned in their Site- Intelligent Light Assistant; Automatic Parking Assistant; electric panoramic sliding-tilting sunroof; Keyless entry; Seat coolers (a boon for our hot and humid climate - I read that it works a treat in the Passat); Side & curtian airbags/Touchscreen infotainment system with India voice guided turn-by-turn navigation etc etc

Skoda missed the boat on a diesel VRS last time round - why not this time? For starters it could be in a higher state of tune (170bhp) and should offer stiffer suspension/exclusive VRS black interiors, VRS body kit & spoiler and VRS exclusive colors, all like in the current VRS and maybe 17" alloys and sport tyres - and offering it with a DSG+paddleshifters can turn it into the ultimate Dr.Jekyll & Mr.Hyde car - It can potter around in town doing your grocery shopping while lazing around in "D" mode and it can tear up back roads while you work the gearbox with the paddleshifts, pasting a wide grin on your face! and if you drive it with a light foot - it can return impressive fuel efficiency while sipping the cheaper fuel.

The excellent 1.8 TSI was a highlight in the Laura and should continue to do well in the MQB Octavia - and if priced well, it could make more sense than buying the diesel for low mileage users. The VRS 1.8 should be in a higher state of tune (180 bhp?) to differentiate it more from the other variants.

Unbelievably good looking car. If they price it right, it WILL fly off the shelves, irrespective of Skoda's reputation. Skoda's feature packed cars and combos of engines and tranny's will surely win over customers, throw in the great looks and this car is a surefire hit IF priced right. Interesting to see what happens come May.

The new Skoda Octavia was unveiled earlier this week in the Czech brand's museum at its home in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. The third generation of what the company calls ‘the heart of Skoda'.
The new Octavia is the fourth model in the Volkswagen Group to be built on the new MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) platform. It's a designer's favorite thanks to its easily altered proportions – the new VW Golf, Seat Leon and Audi A3 are proof of its sound foundations.

Octavia v3.0 isn't a car that smacks you around the face with new and exciting styling yet, as with the three aforementioned cars, familiar themes are refined and applied to a car of excellent proportions. The Octavia has a great stance – foursquare where the last one teetered – and its aesthetic is effortlessly understated.

"You really need to see it next to the previous Octavia or outside next to other cars to really appreciate the proportions,It looks very strong and elegant without being fashionable" Jozef Kaban, Skoda design director.

^^Extremely good looking car indeed! If launched in India, this can give a new life to the D1 segment. That said, I am not a fan of cars growing in size with newer generations. Apparently this one is longer and wider than the Octavia II (Laura).

I believe it will carve out a D1.5 segment( judging by its size and expected price) :P

Whoa that sporty front fascia, side skirts, gloss black wing mirrors, magnificent five-spoke alloy wheels with red calipers et al make the vRS look stunningly gorgeous. Absolutely love the rear with the dual exhausts too!

The newly launched 2013 Skoda Octavia has entered series production at Skoda’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.
Skoda has announced that the third generation of the Octavia will see its market launch in Europe sometime in late January 2013

Speculated launch in India is Q4 2013

A little surprised by that - that is still almost a year away. I would've thought Skoda would be a little more hurried into getting the new Octavia into India. By the time the 2013 Octavia hits our shores, twenty thirteen might just be coming to an end. Of course the news report is speculative in nature but still the general consensus was that the car was likely to be launched mid-year.

Agree wholeheartedly to Omtoatom. I'd much rather have the car launched sometime in the new financial year. Q4 2013 means its a year, before we see the new Octi on our shores!

On another note, that vRS is one hott looking ride. Loved the alloys design and the meaty twin tail pipes! They couldve made that in the RS yellow though.

Got this on Autocar's facebook page.
Anyone with the issue can confirm the news.
Is the mid 2013 launch for India?

^^12L!! Are they retaining it at the current Laura levels? That means two things 1. Laura cannot be sold alongside, so will be stopped and 2. RIP Jetta!!

Hey sure that sounds enticing, but let's not get carried away yet. First of all, I imagine 12 Lacs will be an ex-showroom Delhi price for the base petrol which is among the lowest retail listings in the country and hence most frequently listed by manufacturers for that reason. In all likelihood, the base 1.4 TSI which may be bare - to say the least (think current Laura Active 1.8 - doesn't even come with alloys!)

Secondly as you go up the engine/trim ladder, things will start to look quite different. I wouldn't be surprised if the L&K Diesel (or the equivalent fully loaded 2.0 L diesel) goes well past the 2 million mark OTR. The current L&K is in the region of 22-23 Lacs here in Mumbai. I doubt it will be much different for the new Octavia.

Besides pricing is simply speculation at this point.

P.S. Skoda does want to discontinue the Laura in India eventually. However they have indicated in recent press reports that it may not happen immediately after the Octavia debuts. The MQB-based Octy may be not a direct replacement - at least to start with - and the Laura will continue to be sold alongside for some time.
