Pricing will be the key for this car. The Jetta is priced higher than the Laura and the Superb is a notch above the Jetta. If they price this new Octy above the Jetta then the Jetta will hold the pricing advantage and they will end up being too close to the Superb.

The only way to go would be to price it marginally above the current Laura but still undercut the Jetta.

I have got the January issue of Autocar which has the details on the upcoming Octavia(yes it will be badged Octavia).
I am giving the info. as given in the Magazine.

1.4 and 1.8 TSi petrols and 2.0 Ltr Diesel. 1.4 will have 140bhp and the 1.8 with 177bhp. The diesels in 2 tunes 120 and 150.
The AT on the 1.8 Tsi is a 6 speed DSG, so no DQ200!
The car is very spacious, backseat as spacious as an E Class. The only thing lacking is a bit of thigh support.
The gadgets on board are impressive, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, the works!
They expect prices to remain the same or get even more aggressive because of VW's decision to reposition the Skoda brand.

Thanks very much. Have they indicated when it'll hit India?

Are the pics included anything more than what is in generally floating in this thread? (considering they actually got to TD the car)

The pricing mentioned in the Autocar mag would be Ex Delhi for the base variant.

I happened to speak to a Sales Manager at one dealership, here in Pune over the weekend and he did confirm the following:
1. Car will be launched in India only in Q4 2013. Sales would probably begin by Nov/Dec 2013.
2. Current Gen Laura will be phased out.
3. The price of the new Octi 2.0TDI AT will be more or less of the same Laura AT, given that post budget 2013, there would be a rise in prices,

They do expect the car to be a blockbuster, but are skecptical, given the current Rapid situation.

Launch would be expected in the Festive season ( Q4 2013). See post # 115 on this!

Cheers!

Yes Volkman, thats why I said that sales would begin only by Nov/Dec 2013.
Even if they launch it in Diwali (which they would try to), the sales would begin only after that!

Yes Autocar says that the Car is slated to be launched mid 2013.
But i think that is too optimistic.

According to ACI, it is going to be priced even bellow the current Laura (or rather the price starts bellow Laura). Rear seat comfort is said to be way better and equals to E class in terms of space!

This looks different from the design we see in the previous pages. Major difference in this version is , there is no sheet metal between the grill and the lamps. Even the air dam/fog lamp housing is different.

The article is dated 21.09.2012 which means that the Octavia pics are speculative renderings based on the Mission L Concept. The Octavia revealed is therefore very different from the one shown in this article.

Infact all the renderings are speculative i think and just the front of the Mission L Concept pasted on all the cars.

The Only question is "WHICH ONE DO WE LIKE BETTER?

I guess with so much speculation over the bread and butter variants, the vRS would come in even later? Not that I mind as my next change is not due in immediate future but this version of Octavia is very tempting indeed.

Skoda wants new Octavia to win both compact and mid-sized car buyers.

The car will be larger than the current model to widen the gap from the brand's new Rapid compact, which went on sale in Europe in October

Skoda said the bigger size of the third-generation Octavia keeps the car in its unusual position of being larger than its rivals in the compact segment, such as the Ford Focus, Opel/Vauxhall Astra and the Golf from sister brand Volkswagen. Skoda also aims to win buyers from the mid-sized segment as the new Octavia is just 125mm shorter than the Ford Mondeo
The most-efficient model will be a 1.6-liter diesel with CO2 emissions of 89 grams per kilometer and fuel consumption of 3.4 liters per 100km.

Despite its increased size, the Octavia weights 102kg less than the car it replaces. This is mainly due to the use of lighter materials, such as high-strength steels.

The Octavia debuts some new safety systems for the brand such as the Adaptive Cruise Assistant, which automatically maintains a pre-set distance to the car ahead.

The car will begin to roll out in European markets in January with a wagon version launching in the summer
