Default Chevrolet recalls 300,000 Cruze in US (Brake Assist Issue). Indian impact?

General Motors has announced plans to recall nearly 300,000 Chevrolet Cruze cars from model years 2011 and 2012 due to a problem with their brake assist systems.

GM spokesman Alan Adler said that in Cruzes with six-speed automatic transmissions and 1.4 liter turbo engines, there is the potential for "intermittent loss of brake assist," forcing drivers to apply extra pressure on their brake pedals to stop their vehicles. GM is aware of 27 alleged low-speed crashes but no injuries related to brake performance, which could include this issue," Adler said in an email

Is anyone aware of any impact on the Indian Chevy Cruz ?

The whole company as such seems to be doomed with problems and recalls. Tavera, Sail UV-A, Sail Sedan and now the Cruze too
Beat and Spark are the vehicles left to be recalled. Come On GM. Recall and complete your recall portfolio.

Owners from here please check with your SA's and get the issue sorted if the Indian Cruze cars are affected by this issue. The brake assist problem is a genuine alarming issue and may be affecting high speed too if neglected. Terrifying.

I am happy that GM is accepting things and recalling rather hide the issue and replace the parts only who visit the service centre with the issue. But there has to be an end to this recall kinds.

Anurag.

First of all, i hope no owners have been seriously affected by this problem and hopefully its dealt with before something unfortunate occurs.

We can look at this two ways basically - one, we can treat this as down to ignorance and incompetence on the part of GM or second we can applaud the fact that they have recalled the cars affected despite the bad pr they have received recently. This shows they care about their consumers safety more than their image and thats the way it should be ideally.

Very well worded so as to avoid any potential suing efforts.

Low speed crashes, and no injuries. How convenient because admitting to causing injury would be a deathblow to the sales of the model.

They appear so responsible absolving themselves of all responsibility.

I remember posting somewhere about the same issue about a rental cruze that I got which had absolutely lousy brakes. Looks like they are finally owning up to this issue.

This recall relates to the 1.4L 6-speed automatic turbo-petrol engine, & not the 2L diesel in India. This won't by any chance affect Indian Cruze cars.

Moreover, this has nothing to do with the recent recall of Taveras & Sail (Hatch & Sedan) in India, as those related to vehicles not meeting emission norms unlike the problem with the power brake assists in US Cruze. In US they offer 1.8L & 1.4L petrol models apart from the 2L 151hp Diesel variant.

Sounds pretty similar to the ongoing Maruti (new) Swift petrol braking issue where the vacuum assist on the LX & VX models are supposedly inadequate at low engine RPMs.
