Adding more details that have surfaced:

The attack. Please note the bystander taking pictures with an iPad.
New York: Road Rage / Accident between Range Rover & Bikers-ny-rr-rangeroverrunsoverbikers1.jpg <br />
Good samaritans who actually helped and sort of prevented the attack on Lien's wife. Also note the smashed rear windshield.<br /> <a href=New York: Road Rage / Accident between Range Rover & Bikers-ny-rr-biokiegang1.jpg <br />
The damaged RR. Please note the passenger-side window was also smashed. The damage on the front bumper is most likely because of running over the bike. The front-right tyre not on the rim, possibily indicating that it was slashed.<br /> <a href=New York: Road Rage / Accident between Range Rover & Bikers-ny-rr-rangerover.jpg <div style=

The speed of the Range Rover wasn't that much when the video started. It could've been easily stopped. Secondly, nothing justifies running over the motorbike rider who is in coma. And lastly, why isn't the driver of the SUV charged with attempt to murder? Both the parties are at fault, but nothing justifies running over a biker by the big SUV driver.

When you are attacked, you have the right to defend yourself. The guy was also not trying to counter attack. He was trying to flee. Cant imagine what the wife would have gone through.

Very bad that the injured biker is going to be paralyzed.

Were these biker's going camping or somewhere? I ask this because it seems like the knives they were carrying were pretty easy to fish out. If they were just out for a sunday ride, what were they doing carrying knives? Knvies that could slash tyres of a SUV.

There have been eye witnesses saying these biker's were riding wrongly through the city much before this incident. To me it looks like since they were in a group they felt invincible and macho and therefore were deliberately out looking to cause some trouble. In one of the links posted, the cops after studying CCTV footage said many of the biker's didn't have licence plates! Though both the parties were at fault, the biker's were clearly the aggressor's. If you start the trouble be prepared to face the consequences. No sympathies for the guy who is paralysed.

Some details about the affected biker's past have been published
"The Lawrence motor*cyclist struck and paralyzed as a desperate SUV driver tried to escape the rage of other bikers in New York on Sunday has a six-page criminal record that began at age 12 with a negligent driving charge and includes jail time for drugs, guns, resisting arrest and other convictions, according to court records.
Edwin Mieses, 32, never got a driver’s license in the Bay State, the Registry of Motor Vehicles said, but he was frequently nabbed behind the wheel, and even sentenced to jail for driving without a license, court records show. Mieses has a pending case out of Lawrence District Court for driving suspended, subsequent offense, said Carrie Kimball Monihan, spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. Mieses also has 15 guilty findings for criminal offenses including distribution of cocaine, possession of a firearm without a permit, knowingly receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and several motor vehicle violations, court records show.
Mieses was sentenced to jail in 2004 for distribution of cocaine, in 2001 for operating without a license, in 2000 for possession of a firearm, and in 1999 for possession of marijuana, receiving stolen property, destruction of property and attaching plates, according to court records."

The DA’s office has also told that both men have extensive rap sheets.

The nypost goes on to note that Reginald Chance’s rap sheet showing 21 arrests for a litany of crimes including felony drug, robbery and weapons charges. Mr Sims’ criminal past includes car theft, drug and weapons possession charges – including for a samurai sword.

Getting slashed in the face is a very small price to pay for leaving a bunch of guys half dead. I do not condone what happened to lien, as he stepped over the line 2 times. Lien must realise that his actions have endangered other families.

Smearing people by showing their criminal record is so damn cliched. To the point that it implies that car drivers cannot be criminal and do not peddle drugs and do not drive without a valid driving license.

Where does the question of smearing arise?
Those two are not being considered as crimimals in this case because they have a criminal record from past. They have been charged for assault based on the photo and video evidence which shows them smashing the car's window (Lance) and stomping on Lien's head (Simms).

those motorcyclists were refused permission to do a rally into Times Square and thus determined to wreak havoc on roads by harassing innocent road-users at that time. According to local news in NYC, the bikers were originally headed to a big biker event in Times Square called Hollywood Stuntz. The cops didnt let them into Times Square and they shooed them away. After this apparently, the bikers started cruising and loitering in NYC streets holding up traffic and people. They were apparently so pissed that they got rejected from their event. So far NYPD only made one arrest of one of the bikers and charged him with reckless endangerment which carries up to 7 years. The cops said they have no intention of charging the asian driver and they are looking into identifying and arresting more of the bikers.

Some pics.

Did anyone notice the smashed rear windscreen of the RR? I noticed it just now.

I ride a bike (A Harley by the way) and I drive an SUV ( a Montero). I would never ever ride the way those guys were riding and I would not deliberately try stunts against any person in a car who was just driving normally or crazily. If I was in a situation that demanded I protect my family against crazy bikers, I would run them over in a heartbeat. Those bikers deserved everything they got!

The only thing I can follow from this incident is that we are not safe, nowhere in this world.
Dirt bikes are off road bikes not meant for street riding. If you call yourself a fraternity or a group atleast drive in proper lanes and respect the vehicle you are driving. There is a reason bikes are not called safe and that is because of these same lane cutting riders who drive insanely on the road.

It's just an update on what's developing and for the record half of the people even in a lunatic nation like ours would back off when they see a toddler in the vehicle but they did not. You can slash tyres with a knife but who's to say it would not have been used against his wife and child? Do you seriously think reasoning with armed mobs is an option?

Also his wife's window was attacked and you must have seen another guy was punching the rear window? Who was he trying to get to?

The SUV driver is responsible too but had they not been violent first maybe things would turned out differently.

Lien did just that. He ended the lives of a child, a father, a mother, a wife by not backing off & instead driving over a bunch of people and leaving them crippled while the "educated & civilised" people laud lien.

But many "educated" people think the bikers a.k.a. scum of society got what they deserved... in a manner what "educated" people do not dish out. That too twice over.

Would you really call these lunatics 'bikers' or 'goons'?

Lien survived the brutal attacks, would you support these 'bikers' if he also gets some permanent disability as its not clear on what is his present condition?
