Default Audi to launch baby SUV in 2016. EDIT: Could be called Q2

In an attempt to cash onto the mini SUVs/compact SUVs surge in markets such as China, South America and India, Audi will be introducing a smaller crossover dubbed the Q1.
According to the report in Autobild, Audi will launch the Q1 in 2016.

Name: audi q1.jpg
Views: 14920
Size: 18.9 KB

Set to be based on the Volkswagen Polo, the pint-sized crossover will reportedly measure 3.8 meters (12.4 feet) long and have "generous ground clearance."
To note that, this will make it a 'small car' in India
Despite having off-road styling cues Autobild says the model will not be offered with all-wheel drive.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but will reportedly include a 1.4-liter TFSI and a 1.4 TDI with 90 HP (66 kW).
There could also be a range-topping SQ1 with 231 HP (170 kW) as well as a hybrid variant that has a 1.2-liter petrol engine and a 109 HP (80 kW) electric motor.

With repeated confirmation from Audi on market below the Q3, and the success of such 'SUV's in India, this is almost a confirmed entry to the Indian market.

Essentially this promises to be a glorified Cross Polo with an Audi badge, although the render is based on the Taigun Concept.

Q1 would launch in 2016 and would be the first premium entry in the segment. Mercedes-Benz is working on a subcompact SUV that could go on sale in 2018 called the X class, according to reports.

Europe's volume automakers are launching subcompact SUVs to capitalize on their growing popularity. Recent launches have included the Opel Mokka, Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. VW is planning to join the segment with the Taigun.

Q1 will sell for about 20,000 euros in Europe. It would be the smallest offering in Audi's Q range.

Despite off-road features that include raised ground clearance, the Q1 will not be offered with four-wheel drive.

A plug-in hybrid variant of the Q1 is also planned to launch in 2018, the magazine said. It would be powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine coupled with an electric motor.

IHS Automotive forecasts that annual sales of non-premium subcompact SUV/crossovers will rise to 582,790 units in Europe by 2016 from 307,300 this year.

I dont like the idea of these luxury marques ruining their brand image through cheap cars. I mean what about the exclusivity one deserves when one buys the higher priced products from the same stable. I am speaking exclusively from the point of view of the image the brand offers.

I do understand that a car should be enjoyed for the comfort/drive-ability it offers and one should not bother about what others perceive you to be/what your car stands for. But lets be honest, many of us do care about that. I do not understand why one would choose an A6 over a Superb if one really did not care for the badge. The Audi is a better car but not better enough to cost 2 times the price. It is the badge we are paying for at the end of the day.

Looks like its based on Up!, and I don't see how this will ever sell in India, the limit is the Q3, anything below that is not an SUV but a joke.

Audi Q1 baby SUV revealed - Speculated at a launch price of £16,000 (15.71 lakh rupees)

Name: untitled.bmp
Views: 22515
Size: 344.6 KB

The new baby crossover will make use of the VW Group’s versatile MQB architecture. It will use the smallest version of this platform, which it will share with the all-new VW Polo (due in 2015) and next Audi A1, set to appear in 2016.

]And the Q1 will be joined by the sporty Q2, based on the Crosslane Coupť revealed at last year’s Paris show
The Q2 will be 4,250mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,500mm tall, with a 2,550mm wheelbase, but the Q1 is likely to be just four metres long, around 1,750mm wide and 1,570mm high.
There’s likely to be the option of quattro four-wheel drive, but the vast majority of models will be front-wheel drive only

These are likely to include a version of the three-cylinder 1.0-litre turbo engine used in the VW up! as the entry-level engine. There will also be a 1.2-litre petrol four-cylinder, and the newly developed 1.4-litre TFSI petrol that features in the A3 e-tron, which will also donate its hybrid system for a plug-in Q1.
At the top of the range, a 200bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol will be fitted to the SQ1.

Diesel options are likely to include a new 1.4-litre TDI, plus a higher-powered 1.6 TDI. A six-speed manual will be standard, and VW’s new 10-speed DSG – tipped to debut on next year’s new Passat – is expected to be the automatic option.

Default New Audi baby SUV likely (i.e. smaller than Q3)

New ranges of SUVs and crossovers to take development priority as Audi director hints at A1-based Q car.

Quote:
Audi Q3 is currently the firm's smallest crossover .

Audi will prioritise launching new SUV and crossover models over launching a smaller city car.

It is likely to include a new small crossover to sit under the Audi Q3. Audi has previously also been linked with producing an MPV-style vehicle, as well as creating new niches of vehicle to fill out its Q range.

Audi christens the Baby SUV as Q1.Confirmed for 2016, releases a teaser!

The teaser image shows the model will be a five-door crossover with angular styling and plastic body cladding. Also seen a prominent grille, distinctive headlights and muscular fenders.

Engine options remain a mystery but speculation suggests there could be a 1.4-liter TFSI, a 1.4-liter TDI and a range-topping SQ1 with 231 HP (170 kW). There could also be a hybrid variant - with a 1.2-liter petrol engine and a 109 HP (80 kW) electric motor - but nothing is official as of yet.

Audi is hoping to lure customers away from models such as the Nissan Juke with the Q1, which will be the brand's fourth and smallest SUV

Premium automakers are planning rival models aimed at customers who want to move upmarket. Mercedes-Benz is working on a subcompact SUV that could go on sale in 2018 code-named X class, according to reports.

Thereís no actual info on the upcoming small crossover, but a past report claims the vehicle will be about 3.8 meters long and will have off-road-like ground clearance and styling. Audi released a teaser that suggests the same thing

The new Mini SUV from Audi is called Q1 and comes 2016. The starting price will be below 20,000 euros. (~17 lakhs). The Hybrid will follow in 2018.
Audi did not say whether the Q1 will be sold outside Europe in markets such as the United States and China.

In length the Q1 measures just 3.80 meters. Technical basis is the VW Polo.
Despite the typical SUV exterior, with raised seating position and generous ground clearance, the Q1 is no real grounds Car: All-wheel drive is not provided.

The other technique is based on the Audi A1.

The engines start with a 1.4 TFSI petrol engine and the new 1.4 TDI three-cylinder, both with 90 hp and can be combined with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Peak engine is a two-liter gasoline engine with 231 hp for the SQ1.

In the hybrid version it combinse a 1.2 liter gasoline engine (110 hp) with a 109-hp electric motor.

At 4200mm in length, Audi’s latest concept is almost 200mm shorter than the first-generation Q3, leading to rumours ahead of its unveiling that it is, in fact, a lightly veiled look at the upcoming Q1.

Design cues to Q1 revealed.

Quote:
Making its debut at the Detroit motor show this week and possibly previewing the Q1 SUV due within three years, the compact Audi Allroad Shooting Brake concept is aimed at recreational sports enthusiasts, providing the ride height and traction needed for snow fields, the beach and bush, along with urban appeal.
Inside the cabin, the Crossover Concept has plenty of room for four passengers. In front, the narrow sport seats give the driver and front passenger optimal body support; they feature highly contoured lateral panels and integrated head restraints, while cushioned pads support the thighs in quick driving through curves. An easy entry function makes it easier to enter the rear seating area. When the rear seatback is folded down, a cargo area with a level cargo floor is created, in which there is space for rather large sports equipment.

The dashboard of the concept looks identical to the 'Virtual Cockpit' of the 2015 Audi TT. The steering wheel and digital instrument cluster lie in a single direct line of sight. It features a TFT display with its 12.3-inch screen, which gives all key information in top quality 3D graphics and offers a variety of modes. In the classic view, the power-meter for the plug-in hybrid drive system and the speedometer are in the foreground, while in Infotainment mode elements such as the large navigation map dominate, and in Sport mode the tachometer is prominently displayed. Another forward-looking feature in the show car is the Audi phone box, which links the driver's cell phone to the vehicle electrical system and can inductively charge it as necessary.

SUV Q1 by 2016 and is Audi's priority SUV.

All Other models between Q3 and Q5, and Q5 and Q7, and a model above the Q7 is also under consideration.

Quote:
Ulrich Hackenber, Audi Technical chief confirmed that the Q1 was his “first priority,” so don’t expect to see a Q4, Q6 or Q8 for another three years at least.

An offroad compact SUV concept that hints at Audiís fifth SUV model most likely will carry a name under the TT family, rather than Q4.
The TT Offroad Concept unveiled , when produced in about two years, could become the fourth derivative of the TT family, possibly called the TTQ -BMW X4 rival.

Name: AR140429999.jpg

Size: 28.8 KB

Quote:
The production TTQ would extend Audiís Q range to five models -- in addition to the Q1, Q3, Q5 and Q7 -- and the TT range to four models.

Audiís subcompact SUV, due next year, wonít be called Q2 as previously reported but rather Q1.
The TT Crossover Conceptís plug in hybrid drive system combines a 2.0 TFSI gasoline turbo engine producing 292 hp with two electric motors for a total output of 408 hp.

In the luxury market, Audi is doing all the right things now and relevant to the market. No wonder they have taken the first position and they totally deserve it. BMW has been sitting on their success and has NOT moved much since they lost the position. Even Mercedes who were No.3 reacted and gained position.

BMW, to start with, please get rid of that run flat and give options for a spare. After that, you need to work on the product line up.

More details emerge,

Built on the MQB platform, Q1 will be more of a CUV. At 3.8m in length it will be the smallest offering from Audi. It will be more of SUV-like exterior, increased ground clearance, and high seating position.

As seen with the A3, India could see the Q1 considering Audi's amitious sales growth plan.

Speculated powertrains are the 1.4-litre TFSI and TDI units (both producing 90 hp and mated to a 7-speed DSG), a hybrid version with a 110 hp 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 109 hp electric motor, and a 2-litre 231 hp TFSI petrol engine for a go-faster SQ1.
