Talking Things That Would Make Jeremy Clarkson Cry!!

Hello boys...

saw this on beyond tomorrow...looked up the website..

one of the prettiest, baddest, meanest, coolest (running out of superlative words.....) roadsters i'd like to see made....

it says production was planned for june..can't see it on Ford's website!!

Guess this would make Mr. JC feel bad about his recent acquisation (along with the hardships he had with his GT40..

here is the link.

http://www.gtx1.com/

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD OTHER RELATED THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE THE SELF OBSESSED POMMY (read JC) FEEL BAD!!!

I know a lot of people think he has the best job on the planet...(i do too)

but hate his biased opinions most of the time.

That is one seriously sweet car...

While I was in Auckland, there was this Kiwi uncle-type tuner who had a GT40 as his show car. Was about 700 hp. The sound of that machine was (add all R32's superlative words here and then some).

How about the time when Sabine Schmitz beat him by 47 secs on the Nurburgring in a Jag S Type Diesel and later on, almost caught up with his 9' 59 lap time in a Ford Transit (Diesel) Van.

YES and NO...

the engine is apparently new...the show claimed 700ps with some new supercharger...a strenghtened chassis/subframes like most roadster conversions..

as far as i can see from site, the upgrade options mainly include cosmetic bits..

the show said a lot more than the website in 10 minutes..keep watching beyond tomorrow..was aired here last night...don't know how long it would take to get there..

I'd love to, but not going to happen for a while. Work's keeping me planted in good old Mumbai.

Waiting for you to come set up shop here and give me a spin in your GTR though!

They weren't serious i guess. They were just pulling Richards leg, saying that they'd replace him with her.

I'd love to see Sabine Schmitz vs Vicky Henderson on the Nurburgring. Sabine might win (considering her 17,000+ laps of experience) but it ain't gonna be easy. Vicky is a good driver and a quick learner.

Anyway, back to the topic now.

I feel the coupe version has a more integrated design. But then, the original , one of the very first prototypes of the original GT40 had an open top. The year was 1965.

Only Ford calls the car GT, because they have no choice because the copyright for the name GT40 is owned by someone else.

I makes sense to call the car GT40, when it is so obviously inspired by the original.

It is not a misconception, but people purposely call it GT40.

Not entirely. When the car on it's own is not 40 inches high, then what's the point of calling it a GT40? It'll defeat the purpose of calling it a GT40, when in fundamental terms, it's actually a GT43. They stick with a GT, because that's the closest they can come to the GT40 name, without it being named something which'll be laughed at.

True, the Ford GT is 43 inches tall. The GT40 was 40 inches, which reminds me, this also makes Jeremy cry as he doesn't fit into the GT40 (which happens to be his fav car). His head pops right out of the roof, which prevents him from closing the door.

Point taken. Actually, one wise wag (I have reason to beleive it was Colin Goodwin) suggested that Ford purposely should name the car GT43 as a retort to those who refused to sell them rights to the name GT40.
