Default Rumour: Datsun working on "Go" Sedan EDIT: on-DO unveiled in Russia

If the news coming from AutonetMagz is to be believed then apart from GO and GO+, Datsun is closely working on the launch of a sedan variant of the Car. The car is being jointly developed with Renault and will most likely have similar engine as used by existing sedan variant of Nissan. Although, Datsun has still not announced or spoken anything about the probable launch of Datsun GO sedan.

From the spy pictures that have emerged, the shape of the grille is exactly the same as used in "Datsun GO and GO+". There is still no information of its launch in any part of the world. But it is assumed, that it will be launched some time later this year. May be, Datsun is waiting to see the response of GO and GO+ as and when they are launched.

Following are the pictures:

However, another interesting fact that can be seen is that the design enthusiasts see that "Datsun GO" can be made into different varieties using the same platform. I have stumbled across a design made by Digital Modifier Theopilus Chin, wherein Chin has tried to do engineering that can shape the current "Datsun GO" to a sedan version. I have also seen some designers coming out with the cross version of "Datsun GO". I am not detailing much about the Cross variant as Datsun has come out and clarified that they have no intentions of coming out with Datsun Go Cross variant but are tightlipped about Sedan variant.

The above mentioned design somewhat highlights the fact that there is a lot of enthusiasm among the designers as far as this car is concerned.

We will have to wait and watch the final outcome. But as of now, I leave you with the design of Digital Modifier Theopilus Chin.

Just speculation. No such thing happening.

That's bad! Seems you are sure shot of your opinions!

I would have loved to see this offering in the compact sedan space in India. Definitely would have added some spice if priced correctly. Having seen the Go in person, there is very little which can go wrong with this car if launched with a proven diesel engine.

Apologies, I must clarify.
My comments above were for the Indian market. In the international market, the Datsun brand is positioned a bit differently and there might be sedan versions too, as you can see in the pictures in the first post.

It is a bit surprising that Datsun are getting so aggressive in India without a single proven product till now.

The Go is yet to be launched, yet news of a Go Sedan and a Go MPV has already been leaked.

Ideally, for any company venturing into a new market, it is imperative that they test the market water first with a good, reliable product.

Gauge the success of their flagship product, strategise new products based on market intelligence and customer profiling and then proceed to make further in roads.

Datsun is going sort of the"top down approach" without doing a proper survey and launching/proposing to launch products without prior reading of the end base dynamics.

It is of note that Datsun is a brand under the Nissan umbrella and Nissan has over the years gathered the infamous reputation of a brand who is averse to Customer satisfaction and the after sales experience has been poor to down trodden.

Hi all, The Datsun sedan has been caught testing in Russia. I.A.B reports that the entry level sedan has been caught testing without camouflage. Though the name of the sedan remains unknown, speculation is rife that the car will make its debut at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show which takes place in August this year.

The sedan sports the standard Datsun grille and a sculpted bonnet. The rear sees a small spoiler tip at the edge of the boot lid which gets the Datsun logo and a horizontal chrome strip above the loading bay.

That massive rear-end reminds me of a Peugeot 307 CC for some strange reason. Front end looks acceptable.

First of all, the sedan in the spy photographs is NOT the Go based sedan, and secondly it isn't coming to India anytime soon.

This car is a Russia specific model based on AutoVAZ's Lada Granta compact sedan codenamed the NKD2196, unlike the Go, which is loosely based on the Micra. Renault-Nissan, the parents of Datsun own a 50% stake in AutoVAZ, Russia.

Also, from the Indian perspective, this car isn't likely to fall under 4 meters in length, which isn't exactly helping the cause of a low cost brand like Datsun.

Datsun, the budget brand of Japanese carmaker, Nissan has made its debut in Russia with the unveiling of the on-DO sedan, its first offering for the country.

The on-Do will be built at the AUTOVAZ plant in Togliatti, Russia. Datsun plans to price the car under 4,00,000 Roubles. Sales are scheduled to start in the summer of 2014. The car will be sold through a network of 25 fully-branded dealerships supported by Nissan dealer investors. The company plans to add 75 more dealerships over the next two years.

Looks like someone wanted to Un-do it. Hope we do not get this here, this looks out-dated even for the 90's. The Go sedan previewed earlier, though compact, looked much more cohesive.

Are we in 2014, looks like a face-downed Maruti Esteem. Go has the looks of its time but definitely Datsun ooverlooked the styling aspects of on-DO. Space available and interiors are good though.

Proportions - Thrown out of the window. The front Quarter view clearly shows how dis oriented the design is. Pathetic.

The alloy design is cool. Similar to the Terrano I guess. The interiors looks miles ahead of the Indian No-Go.

When a japanese manafacturer makes a car look simple, people say the car looks outdated, bland, 90's,etc.
When a German manafacturer makes a car look simple, people say classy, understated, elegant etc.
By the way the Datsun on-Do doesn't look classy nor is a head turner. It reminds of the long gone Daewoo Cielo. Can do well in the government or taxi market if launched in India.

I am not sure if you are reading the comments about Toyota's design of the the Etios twins. And which European manufacturer is walking away with compliments for a bad design?

If this car had been launched in the early 2000's, I would still have bought the Ikon / Accent / Esteem over this

No, even if launched in 1980's, this would have still looked odd and out of proportions, it doesn't fit in any era of the history of cars

This looks like a jigsaw puzzle gone horribly wrong ! Why does cheap have to be pathetic design too? And whatever happened to the designers when they stepped in? The interior looks so good. It is as if they too felt the exterior is so bad that they make up in the interior. I hope this and the other ugly sibling GO+ never make it to our shores. Even the Amby and Padmini look better than this contraption.
