Default *Rumour* - Fiat takeover by VW

Volkswagen has held talks with owners of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles about purchasing the Italian carmaker.

Fiat's owners want to shift their focus to the Ferrari brand and quit its traditional automotive business, the publication said, without being more specific.

Quote:
Manager Magazin said VW and Fiat's owners were still far from reaching an agreement on a possible price for the Italian carmaker.

By purchasing Fiat Chrysler, VW is hoping to use Chrysler's U.S. distribution network to help solve its own problems in the world's No. 2 auto market where sales of the core VW car brand have been flagging,

It will be easier to merge FIAT and VW/Skoda in India...there'll be no culture misfits. LOL!

As it's a rumor so I would like it to remain as one. I see it as a disaster since we all know the goodwill and respect Skoda/VW group enjoys here in India. Fiat on the other hand enjoyed true respect from the owners of Linea, Punto and Palio so far and in case Fiat joins the inseparable couple i.e VW-Skoda it shall complete the ring as the Terrible Triple Trio.

Thanks.

So Fiat, which owns Ferrari, is selling itself in order to concentrate on a <niche> sportscar maker, with very limited volumes and an uncertain future(after all, sportscars are most vulnerable to emission norms).

I'd take that news not with a pinch of salt, but with the entire ocean.

M & A are a part of the business world. It can be good or bad, but is often always a necessity. This synergy may bring about several untold benefits for some and a large cup of woes for others. Needs to be seen what they do regarding the existing staff.

Fiat with VW!!! Not in my ugliest dreams... The attitiudes don't match, cars don't match, and even at price point they don't match.. Fiat does not only own Ferrari other than Fiat cars, it will be disaster to see Alfa Romeo going under VW...

I would rather not take this story neither with salt nor with sugar,,,

AFAIK , TATA had a stake / share in Fiat right ? What will happen to that ? Does TATA still own a part of fiat or was it just a short JV for a brief period ?

Gone are those days when TATA had a JV with Fiat, now Fiat is a different entity in India.

Only the marketing, sales and service of FIAT products are now free from Tata Motors. But the manufacturing still continues to be under Tata-FIAT joint-venture. In fact, the land on which the FIAT Ranjangaon plant is constructed belongs to Tata Motors.

Oh no!! I hope this stays a rumour. Being a Fiat owner I would not like to deal with VW. Whatever little market Fiat has will be killed due to the VW way of doing business.

There was a similar rumor about VW taking over or buying majority stake in Suzuki some time back. It did not materialize though.Don't think this will happen unless Fiat is in financial doldrums.

Folks! I am cross posting a quote by fellow bhpian rsidd from the thread of Maruti's deal with Fiat for diesel engines. Link: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...-per-year.html (Maruti seals deal with Fiat to source 100,000 diesel engines per year)

Now my questions are:

1) How will Fiat's merger with VW-Skoda group impact upon Maruti's Diesel vehicles?

2) Are we going to have high maintenance vehicles from Maruti as their cost of production shall increase?

3) In case a diesel vehicle of Maruti develops a problem in the engine then where from the spares will be sourced by Maruti i.e Fiat or VW or still spares of engine will be made by Maruti?

4) Will VW play any role in this agreement between Maruti and Fiat?

Thanks.

VW should take over Alfa Romeo and Lancia from Fiat. These two once great brands have been completely ruined under Fiat especially Lancia which now makes re badged horrible Chrysler rep mobiles. So sad to see these legends stoop to this level.
