BMW finally has an answer to the Merc CLA & Audi A3 with the 1 series sedan now.

The F52 1 will be based on the next gen 1 series hatch & future 2 series sedans.

There will be an X-Drive (AWD) variant on offer too :thumbs up

Looking at that small rear door, looks the the rear legroom will be in very short supply! Even the headroom for that matter.

However, the design looks proportionate.

So this will complete the transformation - the last of the German big 3 to get a FWD entry-level sedan and hatchback!

IMO looks more like a 2 series sedan.

True, even the headlights look exactly as the 2-series! BMW range is getting crowded with too many variations.

This is going to RWD isn't it?

Yup i agree, well this more looks like a 2 series Grand coupe (the render image), IMO the 1 sedan may have integration of headlamps and grille (like F30)

Nope, it is a FWD :(

But, x-drive will be available internationally :thumbs up

What sucks about these compact sedans is they are awfully cramped. Especially in the Indian context, and unlike Europe, the backseat is used frequently.

What sucks even more is Audi, BMW & Mercedes have successfully moved the A4, 3-Series & C-Class a full segment up (in terms of price) to make room for these cramped sedans. A C-Class used to go for 22 lakhs 10 years back; it's now 40 odd lakhs. The 5-Series was a 40 odd lakh sedan only a little time back. It's now in the range of a whopping 60 lakhs. Simply overpriced, there's no two sides to it.

I sat in the rear of an A3 recently.......and ran off in the opposite direction. It's got lesser space than some B-segment hatchbacks I know!

Spotted again, this time with Production headlights;

To add to that, its at that very price that the E220 (W124) was launched in India.

To make matters worse, none of these new "entry level" cars (apart from the present BMW 1 series hatch) has the traditional front engine rear wheel drive layout that the Germans were actually known for and the present customer base does not care, all it matters to them is the badge upfront, to flaunt and flash wherever found appropriate and even where it isn't.

Spied testing @ the Nurburgring !

I'm praying it looks nothing like this. The A3 looks so much cleaner in comparison! BMW designers seem to have lost the plot. The E60/E90/E92 are such amazing looking cars. Even the F80/F82 for that matter.

I loved the little orange 1M that Jeremy Clarkson drove around the TopGear track.

Wonder if donuts in a certain RWD 'M'onster might zap them back to their senses. lol:

Cheers!
Cartman :)

I agree that v/s CLA & A3 this looks the least good. But, it is much better than the 1 series we know (hatchback).

Lets wait & watch how this car shapes up :thumbs up

BMW’s newest small car will be offered exclusively to the sedan-obsessed Chinese market.
Developed as a collaborative project between the German brand’s Bavarian headquarters and Chinese partner Brilliance Auto – a relationship kicked off in the early 2000s – the 1 Series sedan will be produced in China to be sold alongside the locally manufactured X1 SUV and 2 Series Active Tourer.
