Default Hyundai Santa Fe facelift spotted testing in Korea

A test mule of the facelifted version of the third-generation Hyundai Santa Fe has been spotted in Korea. The SUV was seen wearing a lot of cladding, indicating that it could receive substantial cosmetic updates.

Some of the changes likely to be seen on the Santa Fe are a reworked chrome grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new LED headlamps and tail lamps, restyled twin exhaust pipes and alloy wheels of a different design.

In India, the current version of the Santa Fe uses a 2.2-litre, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 194 bhp @ 3800 rpm and 421 Nm of torque @ 1800-2500 rpm (436 Nm @ 1800-2500 rpm for the A/T). The refreshed Santa Fe is likely to come to India in 2016 and reports suggest that the SUV could get engine and transmission upgrades to make it more fuel efficient and less polluting.

Hyundai is also working on a hybrid version of the Santa Fe. It will feature a petrol engine to power its front wheels and an electric motor for the rear ones. Hyundai calls the technology e-4WD. The car will also get a regenerative braking system.

Again ? Its been just a year since the 2nd Gen was launched and TBHP had reviewed.

I don't see any major uplift in this test mule from what is there on the roads, atleast not much from the exterior. Wonder if they have any engine upgrades.

Looks like the fake cladding is built into the camo, the car itself may not have any cladding. The Santa Fe always had clean lines. I do like the black alloys though.

It was launched in India last year but has been on sale internationally since 2012. So it's more than 3 years old in the market.

3 years is the normal time for a mid life facelift. A facelift is never comprehensive. Take a look at Fortuner, Jetta and it's only mild changes.

When the facelift comes to India, Hyundai should grab the opportunity and update its feature list. It's disheartening that the cheaper Grand i10 & Elite i20 have segment-best equipment, but their flagship product doesn't have the goodies you'd expect in a 35 lakh car.

A sunroof, GPS navigation, front parking sensors & an auto-dimming IRVM would be nice. The international version gets a bigger 8" touchscreen head-unit & ventilated seats, these are a must-have.

What's with black alloy's & SUV's nowadays? Toyota did it with the Fortuner and seems like Hyundai will do it with the Santa Fe. Honestly, black alloy's and SUV's just don't go to-gether. What's wrong with these auto companies? Have they lost all sense of aesthetics?!

More pictures of the Santa Fe. Looks like they have tweaked the touchscreen unit and the center console.

The India-bound 2016 Santa Fe facelift has been launched in South Korea.

The bulk of the changes are situated in front, with new projector headlights, restyled grille slats and a reprofiled bumper with C-shaped chrome highlights around the front fog lights. Also new are the wing mirrors – the odd diagonal indicators on the pre-facelift car have given way to more conventional horizontal items.

At the rear, the internal graphics of the LED combination tail lights have been redesigned; there’s also a new bumper with reshaped reflectors, as well as trapezoidal exhaust exits. New wheel designs and three new colours (Tan Brown, Beige Chalk and Mineral Blue) complete the makeover.

The interior, meanwhile, is much the same as before, with improved textures, new garnish on the knee pads and a simpler instrument cluster with more legible fonts. New options include a larger eight-inch touchscreen operating the Smart Navigation system, Around-View Monitoring (AVM), park assist and a 10-speaker JBL premium sound system.

In addition to standard seven airbags and stability control as well as optional Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), the Korean-market Santa Fe now gets Automated Emergency Braking (AEB), High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC) as optional extras.

Koreans get a choice of new 2.0 litre and 2.2 litre R e-VGT four-cylinder turbodiesels. These engines now meet Euro 6 emissions regulations and get a healthy bump in power – the 2.0L produces 186 PS (up 36 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 402 Nm (up 19 Nm) from 1,750-2,750 rpm, while the 2.2L develops 202 PS (up 5 PS) at 3,800 rpm and 441 Nm (up 5 Nm) from 1,750-2,750 rpm.

In terms of fuel consumption, the 2.0 litre version achieves a claimed 13.8 km per litre, while the 2.2 litre mill manages 13.4 km per litre. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
