VW group to be split across four holding companies?
The Volkswagen group may be on its way towards an administrative overhaul. Following the resignation of Ferdinand Piech as the groupís chairman, it looks like the German automaker may divide its brands and manage them under four holding companies.
The VW group currently consists of 12 brands i.e. Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ducati, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania and MAN. According to a report, these brands will form four different holding companies. They are likely to be divided into the following groups:
- Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Skoda and Seat
- Audi, Lamborghini and Ducati
- Porsche, Bentley and Bugatti
- Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Scania and MAN
This move could be seen as a way of speeding up the decision making process, by developing sub-groups for more efficient administration. The head of each holding group will be a VW group board member. As seen in the list, individual groups have brands of a similar nature, which could help improve focus on selective sectors of the automotive industry. An official confirmation of these plans is awaited.
