The seats do not recline completely and the uphostery is old. Stewardesses do not recline completely either and they are old too.
It's weird and uncomfortable.
Were they well upholstered?

I know I promised regular updates and I'm sorry I have not done this.
I was unable to get internet everyday- that will explain almost everything. To tell you the truth I am truly busy living the moments to get online and write about them.

This has been a truly amazing trip so far, long, detailed and very relaxed.
I didn't go to work at all today, opting to spend a quiet day by the Wannsee lake, sleeping and listening to music.
On my way back to the hotel-im sitting at a small biergarten with a bottle of my favourite wiessenbier and a plate of currywurst. I'm writing this on my blackberry.
Let me live these moments and I promise to bring them to you. In minute detail.

Thanks for your patience.

Default YetiBlog® - 26th August 2008 - Berlin!

The flight takes off 20 minutes late from Zürich.

For the first time I realise that it is true what Jenny had told me. The German that is being spoken on the flight by the crew is very, very different from the German that I am learning.

-----------------------------------------

Unknown to most of us, German itself is a major language with multiple dialects within the country itself. Not only are the pronunciations and tone different, entire words are different.

Most non-German speaking people tend to club all German together as one language. It is not.

Let me explain:
A simple sentence like "I love you"

In regular proper German, aka Hochdeutsch (high German) - this is classic and pure German, also what TheOne® speaks it is Ich liebe dich

However, the Swiss-German translation is Ch'ha di gärn please note that this is still German!
Within Germany itself there are multiple variations and versions for example here in Berlin, they speak very differently and they would say Ick liebe Dich.
Jenny comes from the state of Hessen (Jenny speaks both Hochdeutsch and Hessische) and there they say Isch habb disch libb.
In the famous state of Bavaria, one would have to say √I mog di to a lady.
Similarly, every state in Germany has a different word, tone or method. Sometimes even the Grammar differs.
In Austria, though they supposedly speak German, they would say I liab Di or I steh mas voi af di. What binds everyone in common is that they all at some point understand Hochdeutsch and vice versa.

I will not be able to list out every dialect and version here.

For example amongst our colleagues, they all speak German a little differently, with different words and it would take a German a few moments to know where that person hails from.

However until now, just like every person who did not understand this mildly guttural language, I would switch off the minute I heard it, making no effort to follow.
I must admit, German is not easy at all. As the Germans themselves say "Deutsche sprache, schwere sprache" (German language, difficult language)

---------------------------------------------------------

Touchdown on familiar ground. I quickly collect my bag from the belt and I am greeted by a friendly colleague outside.
We drive to the hotel, he waits while I take a quick shower and we're on our way to the Messe.

It will be a long and hard day.

The booth builders have been at work for over 3 weeks now and the basic construction of the shell is over, 2 days before schedule. We are putting up the equipment, arranging the demos and everything else.
The cars get in too.

Everyone is pretty excited about the new collaboration with Audi and the unveiling of the Audi Q5.

Jenny and all the other colleagues are going crazy with the amount of work there is to do. As always, the Harman-JBL-Infinity-Becker-AKG stall will be one of the most expensive and grandest affairs at IFA2008.
The concept is kept very very similar to the past 2 years to lower costs.
From next year there will be a different booth.

As soon as I am in the work areas, Jenny and her other colleague Jenny (That is her in that picture above) are standing there with a huge grin on their faces. Time to change your shirt!

I nod and smile, expecting my Harman-Team shirt.

Instead I get this.

Ah well, there have been worse fates in life than being the assistant to 2 pretty women...

We work all evening and return home to a quiet dinner.
I am happy to see TheOne® again. It has been a long and tiring day for both of us, I have flown all night and she has been slaving with her team.
Within a few seconds of my head touching the pillow, I pass out.

Good night.
