Soon we progress to the larger lake, it gets even more beautiful and all the other boats are out.

Default Around the Lake

My boat ride comes to an end 2 hours later. I feel pretty sunburnt and happy. I then take a long walk around the lake, back to my favourite pastime. Photographing people.

It's been a great day so far. Truly warm and overwhelmingly picturesque. SO beautiful, so beautiful indeed. It was a good decision to spend the day here.

As I walk back towards the station I spot a funny car. What is it?

That is a modified Citroen 2CV. Great travelogue Sam by the way.

You have a knack for taking the right pictures at the right moment.

OH NOO!! That's it - you have ruined my life.

Last night when Jenny read my post she quickly looked at the car and called it "The Duck" the Ente from Citroen. When I compared what she said to thiscar, I quickly dimissed the notion with a humorous "Fake German! You know nothing about cars!"

Now it's turned out to be true. Oh NOO!!

Just look at the bonnet, not the rest of the car, it will be obvious!

I did think, for a minute, of a wonderful snail-shaped car I saw once. One of the Japanese companies, I think it is Nissan? allows students to design a car and actually process it through to production of a small quantity. This vehicle, the ES-Cargo I think it was called (who says the Japanese don't have a sense of humour?!) was one of the results.

Love the lake. It reminds me of Windemere, in England, fringed with hugely expensive properties, most of which were built by Victorian businessmen as expressions of their eccentricity and vast wealth.

Love the miniature ship --- and it really is, I think, a 'ship', according to English maritime terminology; a vessel with three or more masts, all having square sails.

Default YetiBlog® - 2nd Sept 2008 - The way home

I get onto the S-Bahn. The station actually has a window to purchase a ticket, just like the old days.

I decide to get off at the Zoo station, I figure I want to eat something. I have had no breakfast and have had no lunch either. I am surviving on one Kaese-Schinken Staenge and 2 bottles of Paulaner white beer. All these days I have been eating regularly and quite a lot.
In my reverie I had all but forgotten to eat and drink something.

The quality of taxis in this town are something else. In all my years I have rarely come across a taxi that would qualify as a second class car.
The Yeti's European Odyssey - It begins again from pg 12-dsc_2178_thumb.jpg

I find what I am looking for. A Currywurst special cafe, a brotchen thrown in and of course, a little beer. Man cannot survive by currywurst alone.

My water intake has dropped to a minimal. I am surviving on Apfelschorle, wine and beer. I have not had a single whiskey in this entire time.
The Yeti's European Odyssey - It begins again from pg 12-dsc_2179_thumb.jpg
For the first moment since I am gone, I miss home.

Later I look at my food and the area around me and I am overwhelmed by gratitude for what life is constantly offering me. It may sound stupid, but to be peaceful and comfortable in Berlin, sitting on a high stool with my beer and currywurst is a huge blessing and I am enjoying it.
I wonder who else would understand and appreciate the meaning of the moment... I make the call.

Hello...
What's up? Kya kar raha hai? Aish?
Well, Gautam I'm sitting in a little cafe at the town circle with a bottle of beer and a plate of currywurst.

As I expected, a barrage of expletives follows. He can appreciate the joy of this. Mentally I decide that I have to travel Germany with him.
How was Madonna?
I pause. Madonna seemed so long ago it is unbelievable. It was bloody incredible!!
Aren't you returning in a day or two?
No. I'm still working.
Now it is feeling really, really wrong to say that.
Jenny and I will go on holiday from Thursday.
Holiday? Now your holiday will begin?
He asks incredulously. And why have you not been posting, saala lazy fellow?
I explain about not having (free)internet at my hotel and how I've been busy while at the booth.

5 minutes later I use my Blackberry to make this post.

It exists everywhere in Berlin. Nature co-exists with the traffic, side by side. The closest I have in comparison is the city of Bangalore, in places - but we take the green areas and fill them up with packs of Lays, Pan Parag and Bisleri bottles. Has anyone seen the lotus pond at Lalbaug?

I love days like these, days when people open up the tops of their cabrios and travel everywhere. On the road to my hotel I see someone park his Bentley and jump out and go away.
I am looking at the unattended, top-open Bentley in shock. I don't think I could ever just park and leave it like that! On the other hand, I don't think I could ever buy a Bentley.

Default YetiBlog® - 2nd Sept 2008 - Evening

After I have rested for a bit, TheOne® returns home. We get dressed in a bit and leave for the theatre. It is a 10 minute walk.

Of course the ticket says cameras not allowed, but I remember from my previous experiences that it is a useful thing to keep for after the show. We eat some chicken nuggets quickly from McD's and we're in our seats.

Even though I have seen this show a few times before, my breath quickens and I am getting really excited.

The Yeti's European Odyssey - It begins again from pg 12-dsc_2208_thumb.jpg

It is a great show and this time Jenny translates all the funny German running LED text for me as fast as she can. This makes it even funnier. Also the fact that they make everyone take the oath of not taking pictures during the show.

There is also another funny anecdote during the show, but I will not tell you this for it spoils one of the climaxes of the show and I hope that one day you will all see the Blue Men.

I am a big fan and hope you will be too.

I take some pictures quietly and sneakily at the end without a flash.

When the show is over, everyone is leaving, chatting excitedly. I know exactly where the Blue Men come and and am well prepared with my Camera. We get some great photos as they oblige.

I hold up my tickets asking for an autograph and a Blue Man wipes the back of his head and slams down 2X2 finger blue salutes.

The paint has not dried till today.

Sadly, the excitement is over. We settle down at a famous cafe called Tony Roma's - famous for their steaks and ribs. Dinner time!
The Yeti's European Odyssey - It begins again from pg 12-dsc_2226_thumb.jpg

As we eat we find suddenly torrents of water pouring down the steps of a large building. It is as heavy as rain and some young people sitting peacefully on the steps get up yelling and shrieking in shock.
The waitress laughs when we look.

It happens every night,
she says in German.
The building has an automatic water spray at 10pm to prevent people from spending the night on the steps.

On our way home we cross another Bentley Cabrio - what a beautiful car!

Default YetiBlog® - 3rd Sept 2208 - Last day of the IFA show

Today we sleep in a little late. It is going to be a late night tonight.

During the day I finish a carefully planned photoshoot of the entire Harman Galaxy.

From left to right - Spain, Germany, Holland, Denmark!, lol

The day passes by quickly and soon it is all over. Unlike build-up, we have just a few hours to dismantle. There will be another show in the Messe soon and they need all of us to leave.
We have a short meeting and everyone is allocated positions and jobs.

But first: CELEBRATION.
IFA2008 ist komplett vorbei!!

And yes, guys, finally you get to see the girls at the harman booth, lol.

Default It's over!!

The exhibition was a huge success and everyone relaxes and right after the speech, we're all smiling and joking. Some of us prepare for the task ahead, but not now. Now we celebrate a successful exhibition.

After many champagnes, it is time to work work work. The team begins to dismantle as I am handed the job of helping to pack the material from the dealer centre.
It is great fun to be working with my hands and working with people who appreciate and love work.

At about 11pm P comes up to me with a bunch of keys in his hands.

Well, the Ferrari is gone and we need to drive some cars out of here.
Oh? I ask. Where to?
To the Schenker Warehouse to be sent back.
Ah. I am grinning. I know what's coming next.

He holds out a bunch of different keys. I stare.
Want to drive the new Q5?
I am looking at a rather fancy looking key with a Mercedes logo on it.
You want to drive the SL350??
Yes, I nod.

So boys of all ages, I drove the SL350. Brand new, 128 kilometres on the clock. Only for 15 minutes but it was a great drive and a lot of fun!! This is a good car!!

Back at the booth we finish by close to 1am. The others will work all night. Time now to hit LE BAR!!

Default YetiBlog® - 4th Sep 2008 - On the Road again

We wake up late and go off to meet an old friend, a young lady from Bombay who has settled down in Berlin.
We have lunch with her in Kreuzberg and decide to leave for a holiday.

There is just one major problem - we don't know where to go.

The original holiday plan involved lazing at a sunny lake, but as I had rightly feared, the weather had taken a toss downward. Temeratures were varying between 11 and 14 degrees and it was cold and gloomy with rain and dark clouds. Only an idiot would go to the lake in this weather.

Our second option is to go a nice Naturpark or in the mountains somewhere. We're both extremely cranky and tired.

She is more tired and I'm more cranky. I am actually upset with the stupid weather because it has destroyed some well laid-out plans. Upset, because it is one thing being free-spirited and all that stuff, but to be direction-free too?

We set the co-ordinates towards Frankfurt and start driving. It is already almost 3pm when we leave Berlin. Many highways are being repaired and some areas are strangely narrow.
Jenny's navi is an early pre-production sample and it has a few glitches in it. It has a mind of its own and more than once takes us off on a wild goose chase and because we do not know better, we follow the stupid navi as it takes us round and round the mulberry bush.

The Yeti's European Odyssey - It begins again from pg 12-dsc_2569_thumb.jpg

We are only about 80 kms from Berlin. Jenny is tired and nodding. It is dangerous for her to drive. We pull off at a gas station an hour later, filling up and buying some candy and food. I will take over driving from here.

As I leave the toilet I see a beautiful sight.

Default We finally have a plan

We get back into the car and I'm driving peacefully. As expected Jenny has gone off to sleep. It's pretty much relaxed because the navi has just informed me that I am to drive stright on one road for the next 180 kilometres.
I've connected my iPod and am driving pretty quick, overtaking when I have to and obeying speed limits when I need to.

180 kilometres are gone in an hour and a half unbelievably. One of our friends has dubbed Jenny's car "The Corserati" and rightly so. The car does 160, 170kmph with ease.

It is getting darker and suddenly the navi asks me to turn. Jenny wakes up from her half sleep as she realises I have missed the turn.
I cannot explain what happened. Perhaps the nervousness of the left hand drive finally got to me, perhaps the night driving confused me. Perhaps the fact that Jenny was awake and trying to help got to me. Inexplicably I miss one turn, then miss the other then turn off on the wrong road and while the navi is furiously correcting course, I am getting further lost.

Somehow we end up on small 2 lane roads in rural areas. In a while we have calmed down and so has the navi. Looks like a pampa drive for a while.
We drive on the winding roads through little towns and villages and it is incredibly beautiful. I slow down to 50kmph as is expected everytime we cross a town. What is truly incredible is the order of things, regardless of the town. Everywhere we go, the signs are clear, the roads are clean, the camber is perfect. Once again I realise how beautiful rural Germany is.

While I drive through this incredibly beautiful sunset, Jenny takes a few photos.

We are now about 300 kilometres away from Berlin. Jenny calls her Dad for advice. he suggests a place called Hemsfurth-Edersee, a place he used to go for hunting many years ago.
He knows a little hotel there in Hemsfurth by the name of Haus Bergmann and we should call them. Edersee is a great lake with a huge dam and there is a WildPark in the area. It would make for a great little holiday.
I nod and Jenny makes the call.

While I remap the navi I realise that we don't have a long way to go, but it is through many towns and turns and I am not comfortable driving through towns in the dark. I drive for another 50 kms and Jenny takes over.

from maps.google

It is 10 pm and dark. We're driving through long and widing roads. Eventually we reach the little sleepy town of Hemsfurth close to 11pm. We would have never found Haus Bergmann without the co-ordinates.
We enter into this old hunting lodge and find a key lying for us on the bar. Herr Bergmann is not around but we guess the keys are for us.

We do a little halloing and the old man steps out of his bureau with his doggy. Not a passing word of english is said. Jenny introduces herself through her father and Herr Bergmann nods. They look like old school hunters, all of them. I look around the place and in the darkness I can see many heads and antlers.

There is no check-in and clearly no help. We are too tired to even drag our bags upstairs. We simply get into our room, a super-old fashioned hunting lodge style room, wash up and crash.

We are both laughing at the old style german woodwork and the exaggerated hunting atmosphere. Ask a hunter for advice and this is what you get.
