As we approach the pond Jenny spots some beavers (control your jokes ajit). Of Course the photographer is there before us, all parked in the perfect position.
With Jenny's help I get the 18-70 off and get the 70-300 on. I am a little embarrassed to do this in front of him and hope he doesn't see.

As I aim and shoot I hear his voice.

Entschuldigung.
I turn.
Nikon? He asks, pointing at my camera.
Oh God, he wants to discuss equipment and I am going to feel so stupid with my amateur equipment.
I nod. Ja Nikon.
He rotates his camera body off the 800mm lens and points to my camera and says Bitte Schön.
I slowly realise what he is offering but find it impossible to believe.
I make a questioning face.
He points and smiles.

I quickly take my lens off, bayonet my camera to his lens and tripod and make some great shots. God what a lens.

I'm acting like a little boy and he smiles knowing he made my day.

It is really super cool. My own Nikon 70-300 is my dad's and the AF doesn't work with the D40 (It works with his D70 though) and it is a right royal PITA to manually focus ant anything over 200mm for moving objects. This guys Sigma 300-800 AFs like a charm!

I quickly take one shot and take my camera off but he smiles and waves saying something in German. Jenny translates for me He says take your time.

Later I ask Jenny to ask him what he paid for that lens. A little more than 7000 euros. God!

Somehow I have found that Nikon users are a bit friendlier (Rudra excepted) and are willing to offer you their glass esp when it is tripod mounted. A Canon user (the kind that carries a backpack full of glass) at the Singapore zoo just looked at me and my puny 40D with disdain.

My brother in law who uses Nikon (D80) was with me and expressed that Nikon users are much more welcoming. I too have had a Nikon user once come over and help me out with the settings on my Canon when I was confused.

Default YetiBlog® - 5th Sep 2008 - The day progresses

Soon we leave the WildPark. We park somewhere and take a long leisurely walk to the Spermauer (wash your dirty minds) - the Dam on the Edersee.
If you remember earlier I had told you that the German word for lake was See - pronounced as Zay.

That was taken with my plastic Nikon 70-300mm lens.

This, on the other hand, was through the Sigma at 800mm

Time for a Beaver Break

An 80-year-old man went to his doctor for his annual check-up.
The doctor asks him how he's feeling. The 80-year-old says, "I've never felt better. I now have a 20 year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. What do you think about that?"

The doctor considers his question for a minute and then begins.
"I have an older friend, much like you, who is an avid trophy hunter and never misses a season. One day, when he was going out hunting, he was in a bit of a hurry and accidentally picked up his walking cane instead of his gun. When he got to the creek, he saw a prime beaver sitting beside the stream of water. He raised his cane and went 'bang, bang'.

Suddenly, two shots rang out and the beaver fell over dead. What do you think of that?"

The 80-year-old said, "I'd say somebody else pumped a couple of rounds into that beaver."

The doctor replied, "My point exactly."

Ok - back to the Yeti Odyssey

After looking pics of German countryside, i wonder how they maintain cleanliness as they may have low manpower at disposal of town council.
If there is mechanisation, Sam , do you have any pics of such machines utilised by town council?

Default The Water park

Just behind is a little water park for little kids, where they learn how dams convert water into energy.

It may be for kids but I have a great time here, lol.

Time has flown and now it is time for us to go to Jenny's little town. Bad Nauheim is about 150 kms away and it should take us a little under 2 hours to get there.
Jenny is still sleepy. I am beginning to suspect that she is sleepy very often, lol.
