Consumer Reports reviewed data from 1,400 Model S owners and concluded it had too many problems
Consumer Reports dropped its recommendation of the Tesla Model S after owners of the electric luxury sedan complained of a series of problems including squeaking noises, motors that needed to be changed and issues with the car's automatic door handles.
The change came after the consumer group reviewed reports from about 1,400 Model S owners as part of its annual survey and found they “chronicled an array of detailed and complicated maladies.“ It concluded that the Model S “has too many problems to recommend.“

Drivers pointed out another annoyance. The car's door handles often fail to present themselves automatically when drivers approach the car, a signature element of its design. The failure leaves drivers locked out of their cars.

This is the third year that Consumer Reports has reviewed the Model S, which went on sale in 2012. It now awards it a “worse than average“ rating. It had previously awarded it an “average“ rating.

Probably Tesla will have to re-think on Company owned & operated dealerships , no matter how large or advanced you are , there's only a limit to what all you can handle .

The honeymoon period is ending. Even I've been surprised by the problems that Tesla owners have been reporting online. Tesla's over-the-air fixes are a competitive advantage, but stuff like drivetrain issues are sad. Electric cars were supposed to have a lot less that 'could break'.

But then, competitors like the S-Class, 7-Series & A8 are hardly the last word in reliability either. In this segment, if you want true reliability, look no further than the Lexus LS.

I don't think this is going to damage the Tesla brand too much as its fan following & owner loyalty are huge.....the news will definitely make Tesla invest more in reliability though.

If there is one company that is capable of dealing with issues like these quickly, it's Tesla. Especially with Elon Musk at the helm, they aren't going to let reliability be a cause for concern for too long in my opinion. Having said that, this isn't surprising news as GTO mentioned.
