Default Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift spied!

The W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is set to receive its facelift and a test mule has been spotted. Expected to be revealed towards the end of 2016, the new Sonderklasse receives changes on the inside and out. The prototype spotted is still in the early stages of development, so it doesn't feature the complete list of alterations expected in the car.

Visible updates include a new set of headlights and new DRLs, with tweaked bumpers and a revised front grille expected as well. Significant changes on the inside include a new three spoke steering wheel that replaces the two spoke steering on the current model, while the instrument cluster and infotainment system displays blend in a more seamless manner, with the exclusion of the buttons in between. Thankfully, Mercedes has stuck with the integrated design and not adopted a pop-out display.

Powertrain options are expected to be carried over, with changes most likely being made for improved efficiency and lowered emissions.

Isn't it a bit early for a facelift already by 2016?

Doesn't seem like a significant change. Will be interesting to see what they do with the headlights, seems like there will be 3 stripes of LED DRLs. The interiors has the speedo and infotainment screen integrated as one large screen, however the current setup gives room for mood backlighting. This adds a more 3D effect to the screen that looks floating rather than a flush setup here.

What they do need is a good v6 petrol engine since the S350 petrol was discontinued. The S400 hybrid is more expensive than the s350d hence doesn't do justice for identical performance.

^ Though i agree with Sahil, but i feel that this facelift wont come out till 2017 (as a 2018 model).

The new S was introduced in 2013 and a facelift being out in 4 years is still believable but scary at the same time.

2018 S Class interiors spied

One of the most obvious changes is the new steering wheel, first seen in the latest E-Class, with a three-spoke sporty design and the company’s touch-sensitive buttons on it.

Look a little bit closer and you’ll notice the new and bigger set of displays, with the buttons between them gone, making them look more integrated. There is also a new touchpad controller for the infotainment system, replacing the old rotary selector.

For some reason the two spoked and this three spoked steering don't do justice to the S Class and look a bit out of place. I wish they had continued with the four spoke steering albeit with a new design.
