Default Toyota Calya - New low cost MPV spied in Indonesia

Source: http://indianautosblog.com/2016/05/t...-leaked-233133

Toyota Calya, their low-cost MPV spied in Indonesia. Will this come to India as a low-cost option in the lower segment than Crysta? Seems big enough to accommodate 3 rows, though based on a hatch back.

Funny thing is, it is priced even below the Avanza in Indonesia! Another Etios in the making?

The rumor mills were abuzz that the erstwhile Innova would reincarnate itself as Innova Cross and make a re-entry by end of the year in India.

Not in the next 1 year I think. With the limited production capacity Toyota have, the Fortuner is high priority. The Vios might follow after that.

Hope not. Indians hate Toyota's cost cutting.

Toyota India is too slow. If they even decide to get the Calya here, it'll be 5 years before the launch .

Jokes apart, because the Innova Crysta has gone upmarket, there is space for a smaller 7-seater Toyota MPV to go against the Ertiga. Toyota will definitely be looking at that space. The Avanza would fit in perfectly. Or, Toyota could go funky and adapt the Sienta to our tastes.

But no more cheap 'low cost' products please. Let the Etios & Liva be the end of it, whenever they retire.

All washed away. The old Innova is gone for good.

If this is confirmed, they will surely bring this Calya here, IMO. Rebirth of the "Qualis" brand? Anyone for it?

The rear and side views of these car looks like some one tried to copy the new Innova styling and plonked the body into a small platform, which the awkwardly small wheels further accentuate.

Just hope that this is not the Etios MPV that was to be launched years back.

Just bring in the Avanza with the 1.4 d4d tuned properly, but since it's at the fag end of it's life cycle i don't think it will be brought along with the Rush. *sigh* they were perfect for india.

The Sienta like GTO said, will be a good option. Though funky in style, it will sit snugly below the Innova in pricing.

It uses the same engine as the Etios (with dual VVT-i) and it also has a hybrid version in JDM. It will be a good start for Toyota in the mass market hybrid segment.

They will most certainly not use the Calya name here for obvious reasons. Qualis would actually be nice. Not only does it sound nice and inoffensive but the Qualis name built a reputation for Toyota and people swear by the Qualis name.

I'm not able to judge the size of this car. Looks WIDE in the initial side and rear pics, but narrow from the frontal shots! Which platform / car is this MPV based on?

But, Go+ competitor from Toyota?

Will be positioned between Toyota Agya ( hatch) and the MPV Avanza!
The Calya will be based on the Agya .

Daihatsu is also looking to rebadge the Toyota Calya as the Daihatsu Sigra. While the internals will be shared with the Calya, the exterior styling is likely to be influenced by the Daihatsu UFC-3 Concept.

It's based on the Toyota Agya, which is also sold as Toyota Wigo and Perodua Axia. All these are basically badge engineered versions of the Indonesian made Daihatsu Ayla.

The hatch competes with the Honda Brio, Datsun Go and WagonR.

So the Calya MPV is roughly in the class of the Mobilio, Go+ and WagonR MPV, more so in the category of the latter two.

Here are some pics of the Toyota Agya hatch on which the Calya is based on:

Though I seriously hope Toyota doesn't bring the Calya to India; they would do better with the Avanza or a Sienta(Indonesian, not JDM) or any of the half dozen small MPVs that they have on sale all over the world.

Thank you. That gives a very good perspective.

Toyota has managed to design the rear end to invoke some Innova Crysta resemblance and it does look deceptively big from the sides and the rear.

Daihatsu Sigra (rebadged Toyota Calya) in images. It has Datsun GO+ written all over the sides, IMO.
