Default China: Hyundai brings in all-new Celesta between Verna & Elantra

Hyundai is poised to launch an all-new sedan offering between the Verna and the Elantra, called the Celesta.

Set to debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2017 and a market launch soon after, the Celesta will be manufactured by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture and could end up as a China-only offering.

Size wise the Celesta sits exactly midway between the Verna and Elantra:

Verna: 4380/1728/1460, wheelbase is 2600.
Celesta: 4510/1756/1470, and wheelbase is 2650.
Elantra: 4603/1777/1490, and wheelbase is 2675.

So it fits, but there isnít much space there, and one might wonder whether the Celesta is really necessary. There will be just one engine available; a rather old 1.6 with 120hp and 155nm. This very same engine is also available in the Verna and Elantra.

Looks like Hyundai just added a boot to the i20 and launched it as Celeta. This looks so much identical to the i20.

The Hyundai Celesta will NOT come to India, period.

Why? It's because the Celesta may be an all-new car, but it's not built on an all-new platform. Instead, it's just a new "top hat" built on the 4th generation Elantra (HD) platform, with new interiors.

The 4th gen. Elantra was never sold in India. Only the 3rd gen.(XD), 5th gen.(MD) and now the 6th gen.(AD) were/are sold in India, while the 4th was given a miss.

The 4th gen. Elantra (HD) was sold in China as the Elantra Yuedong, and is still quite popular as a taxi. Accurately reflecting the nature of the Celesta, it will be sold in China as the Xin Yuedong (New Yuedong). The Celesta will be a China-only model which will not be sold anywhere else in the world.

In terms of size & design, it may look like a new sedan positioned between the latest gen. Verna (which was just launched in China) and the new 6th gen. Elantra:

However, the Celesta is basically a new "top hat" based on the 4th gen. Elantra:
