That's way above the figures discussed till now.
The lot more synergistic acquisition of Daewoo Commercial Motors had cost Tata just $110 million! I just hope they know what they're doing.

The deal has been endorsed by trade unions, which secured a commitment from Tata to continue with JLR's production plans until the end of 2011. This includes development of new models.

Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. has indeed been making profits since the takeover by Tata. Check this: The Hindu Business Line : Tata Daewoo going strong; lines up growth plans

The cost of acquring Daewoo CV Co. was about 1/20th the cost of acquiring JLR. Also, there were no binding long term contractual obligations of the type involved in JLR acquisition. Daewoo acquisition helped TM bridge a significant gap in its product line-up - genuine HCVs. The JLR deal will also be bridging such gaps but at a much much higher cost.

Hmm, so now TATA will have the world's cheapest car Nano and a luxury Jag sitting side by side in their showrooms? They are really taking the concept of a car for everyone to an extreme!

Default FORD OFFICIALLY HAS CONFIRMED SALE OF JLR TO TATA FOR $2.3b

Ford has finally confirmed the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover to Tata for $2.3 billion at a statement released at 8:00 AM EST today.

Ford has agreed to infuse $600 million into Jaguar and Land Rover pension funds after the deal closes around end of June. The deal however remains subject to various regulatory approvals.

Ford will not retain any ownership stake and as part of the transaction, Ford will continue to supply powertrains, stampings and other vehicle components along with a variety of technologies for different periods of time.

According to the unions, the sale will include a commitment by Tata to continue buying engines from Ford.

I am now proud that an Indian automobile company owns 2 of the worlds most premium and legendary brands......time for celebration

Tata, Congrats!!!

Unlike their other collaborators, you have learnt a lot from Daimler / Merc during your association with them. Unlike most other Indian corporates, you people had the foresight to start R&D and inhouse testing capabilities. Please do keep up the good work.

Quite a milestone in Indian history. Thats going to be one fine feather in the hat of Ratan Tata.
Lets see how things work out for TATA now. An entry into the global market with their name tag could mean some serious popularity & roaring sales.
