Diesel Lambo - Team-BHP

4Car's spy photographers have captured on camera a sensational diesel-powered variant of the Lamborghini Gallardo supercar. The diesel Gallardo, pictured here under advanced testing at the Nurburgring late last month (note the faint trail of sooty smoke), will be powered by a highly modified version of the V10 diesel used by fellow Volkswagen Group brand in the Touareg off-roader. Insiders say that the new engine has been dyno-tested to 590bhp and an incredible 960lb ft of torque, which is generated at just 1800rpm.

Principal modifications to the V10 include the use of a supercharger as well as twin turbochargers, the former to give instant response at low revs, the latter to develop superior power as the revs rise and the turbos spool up. Insiders claim 0-60mph performance in the low threes, with fuel consumption topping 35mpg overall. The rumours have been denied by Lamborghini, but a spokesman did point out that the company used to make tractors. What's more, whispers suggest that the company may also be working on an off-roader, a modern-day successor to the LM-Series. This would share its platform with the upcoming Audi Pike's Peak 4x4, and feature the V10 oil-burning engine as well.
