I think that Porsche now owns VW, i.e. the takeover is complete.
I could be wrong, please correct me if I am wrong here.

EDIT: Porsche has already over 50 % stake in VW.

Is it just VW brand or the whole VW group Porsche is taking over?
Do we expect to see Porsche Jetta or Porsche Laura in future?

Porsche is one of the most profitable automakers in the world and it's surely a great achievement when a small company like Porsche can afford to own over 50% of a large corporation like VW AG (VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti and controlling stakes in Scania and MAN).

Quite agree with that !! Imagine a company which only sells a particular type of car aimed at only certain segments of the market, capable of buying out a giant like VW with all its great bands !!

I dont think its got more than 50% as yet. The vote is to come by September 2nd.

Quote:
WALDACHTAL, Germany (Reuters) -- Porsche will be one step closer to acquiring majority control of Volkswagen on September 2, when its deal to buy 4.9 percent of that company's ordinary shares takes effect.
The VW takeover "will be executed piece by piece," Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said during an event in the Black Forest on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for Porsche said the deal closes on that day in early September.
The purchase of another 4.9 percent of VW common shares was necessary before Porsche could proceed with gaining regulatory approval from the European Commission, which required further proof a takeover was indeed intended.
Once Porsche has received the green light from various antitrust authorities, it plans to raise its voting stake in Volkswagen to over 50 percent.

I simply cant believe this.
How can a company aimed at making sportscars that too for the rich and selling in numbers acquire a behemoth like Volkswagen.

Please shed some light on this...

Quite simple motorheadinc. Porsche are the world's most profitable car maker. A few years ago, their board of directors took a decision that in order to keep them from being absorbed by a larger car manufacturer, they would buy into VW. They have been steadily acquiring VW shares all this while. Now its seems they are ready for the final assault.

Default Porsche now controls VW.

I recently came upon this news that now Porsche controls VW.
Source:
Porsche Now Controls VW

The article.
Quote:
Porsche has announced they have acquired a further 4.89 percent of the Volkswagen ordinary shares today, confirming a controlling majority of which VW now becomes a subsidiary of Porsche Automobil Holding SE.

Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Chief Executive Officer of Porsche, said: “Our goal continues to be to increase our stake in Volkswagen to more than 50 per cent. Today’s step is a further milestone along this road.” He added: “We look forward to continuing and intensifying our cooperation with the Managing Board of Volkswagen, which is based on a spirit of mutual trust, and are hoping for a quick resolution of the conflict between the employee representatives of Porsche and VW.”

Simultaneously, as requirement by German law, Porsche is obligated to make a compulsory offer for VW subsidiary, Audi AG. Dr. Wiedeking commented: “We regard Audi as an integral part of the Volkswagen group and have no interest in removing the company from the group structure.”

This is interesting as there are various agenda's

Porsche wants VW so that it can proclaim that it makes environmentally friendly cars. Also it gives it more purchasing power

Dr Ing. Piech wants to flex his muscles using his Porsche bloodline in VW

The Porsche Chairman and Dr Piech are now at loggerheard

The arena is now open!

TOI reports today "Porsche sait it acquired 'de facto control' over Volkswagen AG, Europe biggest carmaker, and plans to bid for the Audi luxury unit."

So is the acquisition taking place? Whats the present holding of Porsche in VW?

Arrow Porsche becomes VW majority controller

Hi,

Saw this news on BBC and thought of sharing with you guys.

Porsche wins control of VW, offers to buy Audi | Car Blogs | Car Magazine Online

So Porsche has extended its controlling stake in Volkswagen. Today Stuttgart confirmed it now holds 35.14 percent of the voting rights in the huge sprawling Volkswagen group – up from 31 percent. The minnow continues to swallow the whale; it’s just enjoying its fish banquet at a very leisurely pace.

Why is this story significant? Well, VW is now a mere subsidiary of Porsche under German law. And that in turn means that Porsche has to table a bid for Audi. The automotive landscape is again being redrawn before our very eyes...

Porsche buying VW: what it means
Sports car maker Porsche plans to increase its stakeholding in VW even further. Back in March, CAR reported how Porsche planned to buy more than half of VW’s stock and this deal has huge implications for Europe’s biggest car making concern.

We already hear of boardroom spats between Porsche execs and VW top brass. Stuttgart’s golden boy chief exec Wendelin Wiedeking and chairman Wolfgang Porsche are at loggerheads with VW chairman Ferdinand Piech, as they map out the future of the new combined Porsche-VW behemoth.

Porsche and Wiedeking vs Piech: clash of the titans

This is a fascinating battle being played out in the business pages of the world’s media. It’s made all the more interesting by the dynastic element to the story – Piech might be chairman of VW, but he’s also a Porsche family shareholder. And cousin of Dr Wolfgang Porsche. This battle runs across car badges and into the very bloodline of Europe’s most cherished brands.

But much as equity and executive shuffles intrigue me, I’m even more fascinated by what these mean to the product. And in a world where the Volkswagen empire now produces everything from the Bugatti Veyron, the Audi R8 and the Lamborghini Murcielago, you can see why Porsche might be throwing its weight around.

Sorry if its a repost.

Regards

I think that this takeover has already taken place some time back.
A thread already exists: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/intern...cquire-vw.html

This can only mean one thing for customers: MORE POWER !!
Hopefully we in India benifit from it too, with VW plant up and running it won't be long before Porsche setup production here.

Hope now Porsche can speed up the work of plonking in the 3.0 TDI engine from Audi into the Cayenne.

This would be some serious competition to the Q7, then !!

Also knowing Porsche, they might just manage to squeeze out some more horses from this engine.
