Mercedes-Benz is recalling around 680,000 E-Class and SL-Class models worldwide for checks on their SBC (Sensotronic Brake Control) systems. The company has assured that in the event of failure of the complex electronic 'brake-by-wire' set-up, a back-up hydraulic brake will be applied. E-Class saloon models built since March 2002, estates from March 2003 and SL roadsters from October 2001 are affected.

Other recalls announced in the past month are US-only as yet, but concerned European owners of any of the following vehicles are advised to contact their relevant customer services department.

Recalls are becoming pretty common and regular with all manufacturers. Are car makers concentrating more on quantity rather than quality?

If your car is recalled, the dealer should contact you.
