I have been trying to find out why the Japs are not so visible, but sadly very few people in office are really interested in Automobiles for me to get any info. Outside, my language skills are not good enough to ask such questions and get answers.

The bikes are mostly BMWs, Hondas and Yamahas. All in the 600-1000cc range.

I guess Bangalore isnt too bad. The cops in BLR get Pulsar 150s these days and they look pretty cool!

Still not a patch on any of the Yamaha's or BMW's. Cops in our country are the most underprivilaged lot. A Pulsar 150cc with the load of all those equipments and a fat cop wouldnt be able to chase a 125cc economiser, let alone fast cars or bigger bikes.

Bus wheel with what I think is a tire pressure monitoring system. This system can be seen in almost all buses for all wheels...
Great pics @prashanthyr and thanks for sharing!

Look at the hose. I'd say this is an innovative Tire Inflation System, rather than a Tire-Pressure Monitoring system which could've used wireless tech.

Another pic here.

In the mid 80s / early 90s, Bangalore traffic police used to have RD350s - very tough to get away if a cop decided to chase you on one.

In 1992, a friend and I were on a stock RX100 and unknowingly went down the wrong way on Church Street. A cop on an RD350 spotted us and started his bike. It took about 5 km and combined knowledge of Bangalore streets to lose him. A cheap thrill when I look back - we should have just stopped and apologised and he might have let us off.

Default Some more pics

Some more pics. The truck and harbor pics are from the 26th floor - where my office is, hence are a bit hazy. My camera has only 10x zoom :(

Just your average truck. In fact, most trucks are this size!

The road leading to the harbor on Rio De La Plata - Its the world's largest estuary and the other side of the river (30 miles away) is Uruguay.

Honda Storm - Very similar in dimension to our Unicorn. In fact the engine looks suspiciously similar.

In Trivandrum they had one police RD350 till around 1996-97. And usually it was found parked at Bakery Jn with two cops. Then one fine day it disappeared and was never to be seen again.

Default Final Set of Pics

I transited through South Africa and Malaysia on the way back to Bangalore and found a lot more interesting vehicles. Here are the final set of pics.

Sutlej has supplied a set of airport buses to CapeTown airport. These had JK tyres and were built on Tata Chassis - the steering wheel was from Tata, that is how I identified them. Tata Sumo tail lights too!

Tata Truck at Johannesburg airport. Lots of these trucks in J'burg airport. They are supposedly built somewhere (Kenya?) in Africa itself.

Two exotics - rare to find even in the US
1. Bentley Continentatl
2. Brabus S Class - My first sighting of a Brabus Mercedes!

They have better roads and better cars than us! I am able to see a pickup truck in the largest avenue road. European cars are abundantly present, and I enjoyed Peugeot.
FIAT India needs a huge surgery now! Siena was never a success, but is even today a great car. Right engine and After Sales & Service of good quality can lead to success.

More off-topic than above Off-topic: I saw a TVS 50 and a TVS Panther parked next to each other in Louisiana of all the places!

IIRC, long time ago, Kinteic Luna and TVS used to sell their puny vehicles in US. In fact Kinetic managed to do around 20K ( just trying to recall, and might be wrong ) sales. Tough to believe but once there was an american person flexing his hulk hoganish muscles sitting on Luna ( 50cc ).
